while my 2024 3.6 is under warranty I will use the recommended 0w20 and keep receipts. I will use Pennzoil ultra platinum and register it on their warranty site and that way I get a 500,000 mile warranty. been doing that with all my vehicles since they started that program.

Ugh...we are still going on with this debate. Same characters spreading the same misinformation.

I think i'm just going to put this in my sig to save time:

USE THE OIL THAT IS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THAT IS THE OIL THAT THEY DETERMINED TO BE THE BEST CHOICE AFTER HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES OF TESTING. NO, THEY DID NOT CHOOSE THAT OIL STRICTLY FOR FUEL MILEAGE AT THE EXPENSE OF LONGEVITY, NO THERE IS NOT A CONSPIRACY AIMING TO MAKE YOUR ENGINE IMPLODE RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. IF IT HELPS YOU SLEEP BETTER AT NIGHT USING 5W-30 OR 10W-40, THEN GO FOR IT. JUST UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR ENGINE IS NOT GOING TO LAST ANY LONGER OR PERFORM ANY BETTER.

Its all about how you want to use your jeep. And I use mine as intended
Found this and agree

YES - oil threads are always amusing. In the end, everyone has to do what they think is best.

I'm not an engineer, and not even a very good mechanic. So I went right to a trusted source, the certified Wrangler mechanic at the dealer, the guy who was trained by JEEP and owns 4 JEEPs himself. He is also a good friend. His answer was interesting.

He said the Pentastar was originally using 5W30. It was changed to 5W20 to meet the fleet fuel mileage requirements, but there were no changes in the Pentastar requiring this change, it was all about fuel economy. Here in far West-Texas we rarely see freezing temperatures (like today), but we often see 100+++ days from early spring to late fall. He said for the average soccer-mom, daily driver and mall crawler it wasn't critical and 5W20 was fine for a hop down the freeway. He also recommended that because I really use my JEEP as it was intended, I should use Mobile-1 Super-Synthetic 5W30. Mobile did away with Super-Synthetic, and now we use Truck and SUV 5W30. Especially since I do make my Pentastar earn it's keep. It isn't a daily driver, but we are out in the desert a couple of times a month, and at least once a month we are out a week or more with the trailer, with at least one 2 to 3 week expedition every year. Sometimes we make camp for the full week, and sometimes we jump some distance every day. Some trips towing the trailer I see my water temperature up to 230° and 235°. If it gets to 240° I slowly coast down to a crawl up the hill. My mechanic friend says the motor will not let me permanently hurt it, but to try to stay below 240°. Transmission never gets over 176°

When I was seeing 225f coolant while driving up a hwy mountain pass, my oil temp was 245F.

I have been using 5w30 on day one put have switched to 5w40.
The reason I switched to 5w40 is because other manufactures that use the same motor use 5w40
Other manufactures do not have the MPG mandate and use what is best for there engine
For example Maserati uses 5w40

Maserati and Pentastar are very similar but not the same. Maserati has a higher compression ratio and smaller pistons. Would 5w40 be better for that engine versus the pentastar?

I don't think so
The 3.6 is 11.3 to 1 compression ratio

versus 12:1 to 13.5:1 for the Maserati

Are Maseratis made with Chrysler parts?

In order to keep expenses low and profits high, car groups are sharing parts across the brands they own, including their luxury divisions. In Maserati's case, it goes without saying that it uses parts shared with other FCA models from the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep brands.May 12, 2019

I think you got the spec for the 3.0 diesel
You will never find street fuel for 12:1 to 13.5:1 Compression Ratio

"The 3.0-liter (approx 245 bhp (183 kW) at 6200 rpm) engine used in the Maserati 300S was based on the Straight-6 design of the Maserati 250F and incorporated a lengthened stroke developed by Vittorio Bellentani to increase the capacity from the original 2.5-litres. The compression ratio was reduced from 12:1 to 9.5:1, partly due to the FIA regulations requiring the engine to be run on road car fuel. It used three Weber carburetors."

That was little tiny race car, made almost 70 years ago. Willys41 is showing a contemporary large sports sedan that uses a Pentastar based 3.0L twin turbo V6. The connection is Stellantis owns Maserati and Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram.

That's on the list. Still putting it back together after fixing the oil filter adapter/cooler leak, and installing Mishi radiator and trans cooler, 850w fan, 100a z-fuse, and Gladiator grill mesh, along with steering boost, etc.. Upper intake went on yesterday. Lots of other wires, hoses and do-dads to hook up, fill radiator, bleed and set pressure on steering, fenders back on, etc.
