Like I said before, I jammed the pedal hard. The Jeep was beginning to slide sideways.
Yes, because you never engaged ABS. Jamming the pedal hard and staying on the pedal hard until you feel the pedal pulsating means ABS kicked in. Anything else means no ABS. There’s no other explanation.

I think it’s worth taking to a reputable mechanic who can check things out including a “field test” where they confirm everything is functioning correctly. I understand your concern and your question. But a written description given on the internet, no matter how precisely stated it seems to you, can be interpreted differently than intended.

Yep. I intend to take it in, but have very little confidence in the dealer given past experience. At any rate I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I'm not surprised... I had an incident where the ABS failed to function on a a snowy road, sent me into a slide, and spun me off the road.
The way you phrased that made it sound like your ABS sent you into a slide and spun you off the road. That's not what you meant, right?

Your ABS didn't engage (for whatever reason), you ended up in a slide, and you spun it off the road, right?

Unless, of course, your ABS is possessed.

My experience with hard stopping is kind of different. I’ve had to stab the brakes hard enough to lock up the tires on 3 occasions. Once was a dog (he did use the crosswalk ironically but my light was green), and twice where an accident next to me ended up in my lane. All 3 times I put the pedal through the floorboard. What made it unique was the fact that once my brakes were locked up, the pedal stayed to the floor until the Jeep came to a complete stop, whether I still had my foot on the pedal or not didn’t make a difference. This is the first vehicle I e ever seen do this. I can say for certain that abs did work as all four of my tires locked up at different times. Interesting feeling for sure on 37s.

I had to stop very quickly at highway speed in my 2022 JLUR. The wheel locked up and I began to slide sideways. I have to assume the ABS didn't kick in. Any experience with this?
Do you have an aftermarket lift and larger tires? How much tread do you have on your tires?

It's a common misconception that ABS stops skidding. A properly functioning ABS will not prevent sliding sideways, and you will still skid. You'll hear the tires screech, they just won't "lock-up" and stop rotating. If the wheels lock up you can't steer. As long as they are rotating a little you can still control the vehicle. They may only be rotating at 5mph while the vehicle is doing 60mph. As long as the wheels were still rotating ABS didn't need to do anything. With 37s they probably weren't locked so ABS had nothing to do. Stability control systems try to prevent the vehicle from spinning around. Not sure how effective stability control is on our big wallowing jeeps though. lol

I've dropped the anchor in other cars I've had and it immediately feels like I'm driving through a rock garden. This is my first experience with sliding in an ABS vehicle.

depends on the ABS system, there are ABS systems that prevent skidding and those that work in a corner too in addition to the traction control function

The only time I can tell you experienced something similar was in my truck on wet/icy roads. ABS traditionally worked, bet when going around a corner, the ABS caused a drift sideways that did not effect the ABS...just slid left and almost smacked a curb. In a straight line the ABS kicked in. My guess is that if the slide is lateral, the ABS is not nearly as effective. Just my $0.02

1) Do you have a tazer or similar
2) Do you have larger than stock tires
3) Were you in offroad+ or otherwise not in normal 2wd driving mode?
4) Have you modified the brakes in any way (example rear pads replaced with high grab ones, fronts not changed yet) that you know of.

Not saying it's right, but any of those can mess with the computer in a way to potentially cause the issue. Not saying for sure, but as soon as you start messing with, what Jeep designed, some weirdness can happen especially which it's computers and sensors, etc.
