Hello all,

I've recently bought a 2022 392 with a tazer already installed. I took my time to learn how to use it and set it up how i like it.

Went offroading the other day, thinking that 4x4 was engaged and quickly got stuck in a not soo good location.

Tried to engage the difflocks without success and just kept digging myself inn worse and worse.

After some minutes, my friends noticed that my front tires were not spinning at all (note that FORCE 2WD was not engaged, and the 4H part time light on the dashboard was ON)

I got frustrated and just pulled the taser out... seems this got the 4x4 engaged and i was able to engaged the difflocks and get myself out in seconds.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation with the TAZER ? Any advise on how to make sure it doesn't happen again?

At this point i've unmarried the tazer and considering not to reinstall it.

Thanks

That's pretty concerning. I haven't experienced it myself, but I'd definitely make sure the Tazer is updated to the latest firmware if you decide to use it again. Since removing it immediately restored 4WD and allowed the lockers to engage, I'd be suspicious that either a setting got enabled unintentionally or there was some sort of communication glitch. Personally, after something like that happening while off-road, I'd probably leave it uninstalled until I figured out exactly what caused it.

I would update the Tazer to its latest firmware. Also, something to make sure you dont accidentally turn on forced 2WD. I have the buttons mapped, but I try to ensure I am never on the music page of the cluster, that way no accidental hits on my mapped button.

Since everything went back to normal after removing the Tazer, I am guessing its one of those live features that was blocking it?

I am no expert on Tazer, just started using it.

Why cant they put a BLE chip in that thing and make an app to make everyone's life better? The damn washing machine in my house has an app.

I suspect many Tazer problems on the forum turn out to be operator error. Not all. Without someone actually being there who is experienced with the Tazer being able to observe everything that happened, you’re just going to get a lot of guesses.

They did- it's called the Flashcal+ from Superchips and Holley. It's also hot garbage and works maybe 1 out of 10 times, and their tech support doesn't know what to do. Maybe this will help spur on some innovations because it seems like none of these products are very well developed.

Had you disabled traction control?

does this mean you cannot fully disable TC nanny while off-road with Tazer plugged in?

Everyone has already answered about the "Force 2WD" and live features on Tazer, which was my first guess, but I'll go with the obvious:

Make sure the Jeep is actually in 4Hi/ 4Low. NOT AUTO 4. This is one of the biggest problems with new 392 users, I'm told. AUTO4 is NOT the same as 4wd hi/ 4wd low.

No, I think it means the auto transfer case in 392s has a complex relationship with traction control to protect its clutches.

I believe the 5-second TC button hold works without a Tazer when in part-time 4WD, the Tazer just allows it in 2WD. The 392 doesn't have 2WD, and the TC hold works in 4Auto without a Tazer, but the 392 disconnects the front axle to protect the transfer case clutches (392 owners discovered this hack to put the 392 in 2WD). The Tazer instructions essentially just warn 392 owners of the normal 392 behavior if they try to use the feature meant for non-392 users in 2WD.

So, if the OP disabled Traction Control while in 4Auto, he forced 2WD without the Tazer actually being involved.

Thank you, just looked deeper into this, you are right, completely disabling TC nanny also puts the 392 in 2WD. Kinda defeats the purpose off-road

I believe there's a misunderstanding here. Completely disabling TC nanny also puts the 392 in 2WD only when a Tazer is married to the 392. In any other case, it just disables traction and stability control.

What i believe this means is after you disable the TC nanny, you need to press the TC button twice to force 4x4.

Watch the video in this link from the time i've shared:

What i understood is that with Tazer installed, disabling TC nanny will also force the 392 into 2WD. You need to press the button twice to force 4x4... and you can keep pressing the button twice to toggle between 2wd and 4wd. Let me know what you think please.
