Things you almost never see. Stock Axles running 40s on hard trails. It is almost like seeing a Toyota or a Bronco on a trail rated higher than a 4. You do occasionally see it. But it is rare.

I wonder what the cost is to recover a Jeep off of Pritchett Canyon, Cliffhanger, or say the Rubicon trail is? Anyone have any info on that? I know one of my buds that got his Jeep recovered out of the desert was $11,000. Good thing his insurance picked it up. I think his Jeep was down about 4 months while he waited for it to be repaired. A long four months of chilling in a Motorhome waiting for the repairs and parts.

It is hard to find parts for the Dana 44 anyways, and you can easily wait weeks or months. When you say stock axles, are you calling stock Dana 44 axles stock, but hey you bought $4000 in aftermarket axle shafts, you have spent a thousand to truss each axle housing, You have spent $2000+ to re-gear the axles. Then wheel. it like your earring 20 dozen eggs in a single Walmart plastic sack?

Not saying that those of you that have posted pics of your Jeep on 40s with stock axles don't wheel, but not one of them had a single scratch that I could see on any of your wheels. Like how do you wheel a hard trail and not have any rock rash. You guys must be amazing drivers.

I was so hoping that at least one of you guys had a wheel that looked like this.
Jeep Wrangler JL 40's on 392? 1708693727711

I hope that the ones of you that do wheel your Jeep with 40s at least carry spare axles and the tools to be able to pull an axle and replace it on the trail. Moab does not require a hard trail to break an axle. There is so much traction, and you can put such a high load on an axle shaft just doing a climb that you never spin a tire on.

If you are out wheeling and you do break an axle shift, hit me up. If I am home I will next day air it you. You just pay the shipping.

Mind you I think it is awesome to be rolling on 40s. All of your Jeeps look awesome. I just know that even running 37s on stock axles are hard on the Jeep and all of the components if you wheel it hard. I also know that if you are wheeling 40 on stock axles that you are turning around on trails and or taking bypasses when ever possible even though a Jeep on 40s is more than capable of doing the obstacle. I understand this too. I would be in no hurry to beat up a 392 Jeep on the trail. It make sense to me.

My trimming was done in preparation for my Fusion 60/14 to go in. And my change from 37”s to 40”s. It gets wheeled, unless Pritchett and Rubicon aren’t considered hard enough.

What, that wheel looks brand new! In all seriousness, that’s about a season of use out here in Colorado. ?

I have done Pritchett and the Rubicon. I did twist a stock axle shaft on the the Rubicon. So did you do those trails with 37s or 40s. Also not saying that it can't be done with stock axles on 40s. Just saying you run a far greater risk doing so.

I have wheeled in Colorado. Its funny how the badge trails expect for Holy Cross are rated high, yet, Black Bear Pass, Imogene, Ophir can be done in 2wd. Heck I saw a 2wd Chevy Silverado on top of Engineer Pass.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very difficult trails in Colorado, (like buggy trails) but many can be done with stock vehicle.

I have five wheels that look like that. Yet none of the Jeeps on 40s in this thread have a rock rash one. Just saying. I ran 40s. For a minute. Most of my buds that went to 40s say it take the fun out of wheeling.

Dude, you're a troll. Where is your jeep? I'm rolling on Currie Platinums (Dana 70's), 40" tires, and my rig is a dedicated trail rig. What are you running and where are your pictures?

I can’t speak for the others, but my Jeep just moved to 1-tons & 40’s, this year, and the pics I posted were taken after one small trip to Moab and back... So of course my wheels are new! But my wife's 392 got my 37s (kmc machete headlocks) and her mall crawler looks bada$$!

As for badge of honor ratings, 99% of the trails can be done in a stock jeep, including Pritchett Canyon & Holy Cross, which are both rated a 7-9...

As for Black Bear Pass, Imogene, Ophir, they are all easy trails that come with some expert consequences and I can't imagine that Michigan has even one trail that compares to any of them - either in beauty or in annual deaths ?

On a side note, I saw a YouTube video of a guy doing Pritchett Canyon in a Dodge Ram 3500 Dually, and he made it ?

Well I kind of wheel, like around the country.

Jeep Wrangler JL 40's on 392? IMG_0305

I have done 58 of the badge trails and thousands of others. My JL is not a daily driver, We pretty much use it for Jeeping, Jeep travel as we Jeep, hike, climb all over. We have towed our campers 56,000+ miles. I did not like the 40s on the Jeep as we only got 8 mpg towing. Vs 13 mpg towing with 37. We have wheeled moab three time. 30+ days straight the last time we were there. We typically take off for six to eight months of jeeping after Christmas. Our travel this year was to be as far south as Cabo San Lucas Mexico and as far north at Dead Horse Alaska. Unfortunately my wife’s dad passed so we came home. We did wheel in Kansas, Disney Oklahoma,

Hot Spings Arkansas, beaches in Louisiana and HiddenFalls Texas before heading home. We will head to Alaska in May, after my wife and son return from 10 days in Spain. When Jeeping , we will will wheel typically four to six times a week.

Why are the majority of the pics of these Jeep in this thread not out wheeling?

I have another four or five thousand pics from wheeling.

I often lead group ride of 30 to 40 Jeeps and have lead a 60 or so Jeep ride. I have also been an instructor for Overland Expo. I teach how to plan multiple month off roading adventures and how to use mapping software like Gaia, Google maps, Onx. How to find dispersed camping and so on.

I had applied to be an instructor at Overland Expo West this year, but because of my father in laws death, I cancelled out. Sadly.

So not trolling, we just wheel a lot with a lot of Jeep people from all over. We have seen a thing or two.

I just installed a rear Fusion 60 on my Jeep. The fit and finish was nice. Easy install. I could not keep a Dana 44 reliable. I broke teeth off two different pinion gears. And the electronics failed four different times on the lockers. Pritchett and the Rubicon are great trails. They are some of the best Jeep, non buggy trails around. I liked Cliffhanger a lot to as it is fun right out of the trailhead. I love wheeling in Arizona, Utah and Nevada Southeast California We will usually spend the winter wheeling in those states. I like wheeling in Colorado too, but they have a short wheeling season. I need to spend some more time in Idaho and eastern Oregon.

I need to do more in the Eastern part of my state too. Very scenic, but nothing hard. Not much hard anywhere in Oregon, ?
Agreed on the factory 44. I busted my locker also, then the pinion chewed on the broken parts ?

I like being way off the road to camp. We camp with a camper and or a tent.

A new camper for us. My wife was like hey after approximately 300 days of camping in a teardrop. Can we get a little bit bigger camper.

We bought this camper at the end of November 2023. We have already towed it 3600+ miles. Winter camping in snow, camping on the Gulf of Mexico. It has been in eight states already. Will take it to Alaska in May from Michigan. Going to spend about three months going to and from Alaska. If the timing works out right, might hit Eastern Oregon on our way home and then meet up with fellow Jeepers that will be wheeling in Colorado in mid August.

We carry a tent for camping on the trail when it gets to rough. The campers are used for a base camp.

We like the tent to get way out.

There are some great trails that I need to explore in Eastern Oregon. A trail does not have to be difficult to be fun. Some of the best trails are easier with spectacular views.
