Things you almost never see. Stock Axles running 40s on hard trails. It is almost like seeing a Toyota or a Bronco on a trail rated higher than a 4. You do occasionally see it. But it is rare.
I wonder what the cost is to recover a Jeep off of Pritchett Canyon, Cliffhanger, or say the Rubicon trail is? Anyone have any info on that? I know one of my buds that got his Jeep recovered out of the desert was $11,000. Good thing his insurance picked it up. I think his Jeep was down about 4 months while he waited for it to be repaired. A long four months of chilling in a Motorhome waiting for the repairs and parts.
It is hard to find parts for the Dana 44 anyways, and you can easily wait weeks or months. When you say stock axles, are you calling stock Dana 44 axles stock, but hey you bought $4000 in aftermarket axle shafts, you have spent a thousand to truss each axle housing, You have spent $2000+ to re-gear the axles. Then wheel. it like your earring 20 dozen eggs in a single Walmart plastic sack?
Not saying that those of you that have posted pics of your Jeep on 40s with stock axles don't wheel, but not one of them had a single scratch that I could see on any of your wheels. Like how do you wheel a hard trail and not have any rock rash. You guys must be amazing drivers.
I was so hoping that at least one of you guys had a wheel that looked like this.
I hope that the ones of you that do wheel your Jeep with 40s at least carry spare axles and the tools to be able to pull an axle and replace it on the trail. Moab does not require a hard trail to break an axle. There is so much traction, and you can put such a high load on an axle shaft just doing a climb that you never spin a tire on.
If you are out wheeling and you do break an axle shift, hit me up. If I am home I will next day air it you. You just pay the shipping.
Mind you I think it is awesome to be rolling on 40s. All of your Jeeps look awesome. I just know that even running 37s on stock axles are hard on the Jeep and all of the components if you wheel it hard. I also know that if you are wheeling 40 on stock axles that you are turning around on trails and or taking bypasses when ever possible even though a Jeep on 40s is more than capable of doing the obstacle. I understand this too. I would be in no hurry to beat up a 392 Jeep on the trail. It make sense to me.
