If you see your tire guy using this..... Beware....
Jeep Wrangler JL 3 broken wheel studs in 3 weeks 1619176033248

It has 1400 ft lbs of breakaway torque. The lug nut is coming off. If he holds the trigger down putting lug nuts on, you can experience problems with damaged studs. If he starts the lug nuts and they cross thread, he will most likely not even notice.

My son bought me one of these for Christmas and it is a beast when it is turned all the way up. I have never been careful using a tool in my life until I got this. This tool can make a ten minute job into a five minute job or a two day job in just a few seconds.

Any pics of the lug holes on your wheels? How bad are they gouged?

Not sure if you are into Monster Trucks, but when I was young, Carolina Crusher was my idol.
LOL.

Your name brought back some memories.
That's interesting! I actually got the idea for my screen name from a plant called Carolina creeper. But, yes I love watching the monster trucks. I've actually never been to a live event, but have always wanted to go.

Sorry to see this happen, keep us posted on what you figure out....personally I haven’t been impressed with anything Dana Spicer has sent me. From ring&pinion sets, master install kits, and of course chromoly shafts like yours there’s been a nice surprise when I open a package from them. This pic is just one example of how poor their quality control is, can’t even press the studs in all the way. Of the 2 shafts that showed up I had 3 studs not pressed, 2 nicked tone rings, and smashed splines.
I’ve had no issues with Yukon brand and will be sticking with them once these parts fail and leave me high and dry just like you :)

Wonderful. Just put dana gears in my jeep....

@zeebo56 got a master rebuild kit and it was USED and lacking parts! we didnt know if it was Northridges error or Danas.

I opened a claim with the tire shop that did the rotation. They know me well and said they will provide footage showing they didnt fuck it up. Basically I'm about to make that shops life a living hell. I contacted them and they blew me off. Did I mention that I'm an licensed attorney?
Lol they have footage from last October? And they zoomed in when he was putting the lug nuts on, just in case the customer comes back with a complaint.

Maybe they have had a lot of complaints and now they back up camera data for a year on a huge server.

Did you rotate or get the dealer to do it? Whenever any shop works on my tires, I loosen every lug and re-torque them. Even cheap air impacts put over 600 lbs of torque these days. Cross threaded means the tech was too lazy to start the lugs for a few turns by hand. Then they absolutely hammer the lugs on with those impacts.
Just last weekend I rotated my own tires. I use a Milwaukee electric ratchet to make things easier. The correct process is 1) start with fingers, 2) tighten with electric ratchet, and 3) finish with torque wrench.

Well, I got lazy 1/2 way through and started using the Milwaukee for both step one and two. Guess what? I started cross threadone and ruined the lug (thankfully the stud was fine). I had to buy a set of used lugs on eBay and pay to get them shipped one-day priority.

Had I made this lazy mistake with an impact I 100% would have ruined the stud.

Anyway, like everyone else I agree that fluids and rotations are best done at home. At least when a mistake is made you know who to blame.

I watched the dealer kid changing my winters to my summers on my RS.....he tightened all the lugs with an impact, then went around and confirmed torque with a tourqe wrench.

.....looked like a deer in headlights when I asked him if he thought that was an effective way to do his job......sigh. SMH.

I then showed him that if your torque wrench is set to 100 f/lbs and you tighten it with an impact to 300 f/lbs, the torque wrench will still click at 100. Lol. He then proceeded to break all of them and re-torque.

Not to mention those impacts can do a number on the wheel lug bores too, nicks and gouges when that socket get clunking around, SMH :(

Chrome on the taper lug nuts need to be extra tight; otherwise they will back off. I've learned this several times from experience.

The Snap On impact puts out about 1300 FT LBS of torque at 90psi inlet. If the shop runs 170psi, the impact gun would put out about 1800. The Jeep wheel spec. is 130 FT LBS. If you hear roaring impact guns at your shop, change shops. When the tech fast blasts the lugs, the tech makes more money but the wheel studs pay the price. The good shops use the low setting and barely press the trigger or spin the nuts on by hand, then use a torque wrench. A local Ford dealership paid out hundreds of thousands for a customer wheel being over torqued with the studs breaking and the wheel coming off and maiming the poor people. Ooooor...the shop can use "torque sticks." They are color coded extension looking things. Each color is a different torque meant to be used with the impact gun. The gun puts out lots of torque and the stick twists similar to a spring to disallow the higher torque to be transmitted to the lug nut. If they fast blasted your new rims, the shop owes you 4 sets of wheel studs and nuts. Put a torque wrench on the lugs to loosen them and it will sort of tell you how tight they were blasted on. That gives you ammo for your future conversation.

Update:
Dana spicer has warrantied the entire assembly! I get the new one on Thursday. Ill make sure all the studs are properly pressed in this time before install. Also, I'm adding hub rings to ensure this doesnt happen again!

I had 5.........yes 5 Dana/Spicer chromoly rear axle shafts sent from Northridge4x4 and Dana before I finally received 2 that were not damaged. I had lug studs that were not pressed in correctly or fully loose in the box. 2 of them had splines that were damaged in transport. It took weeks to get the 2 that had NO damage or missing studs. Not happy with the packaging job Dana does with these axles, but the 2 I have installed were in perfect shape and have treated me well.
