Happened to my wife and me back in '17, and we were also on vacation. 100% my fault for forgetting to retorque. Worse, the noise sounded like it was coming from the front, so when I stopped I checked everything up front and assumed it was a hub bearing. We got back on the road, hit around 55mpg, and "clunk" . . . . then the tire passed us.

In our case, when the Jeep dropped it popped the flare off, and it rolled on the rotor until I was down to about 5 mph and then it locked it up and slid on the pavement. We were towed to an auto parts store in Cortez, CO, where I ordered lug nuts and a rotor, the next morning I installed everything and we continued on with our trip to Moab. I now carry extra lug nuts and everything needed to replace the flares.
