I'm on my 4th set of tires. I rotate tires myself with each oil change. Just found my 4th cracked wheel stud while rotating. They're cheap and easy to swap out once you've done it once, but I'm curious - is this unusual? Are they wear items, are they crap material (so far I've replaced with OEM), are the tire guys over torquing, or am I doing something wrong?

I always loosen the lugs when I get it back from the tire shop and retighten by hand so I'll be able to remove them on the trail.
When rotating, I snug them before lowering the wheel, then crank them down in a star pattern. After driving about a mile, I then crank the lugs one last time.

Not normal, cause d but overtorqing, by a lot. I had a dealer try to charge me for 2 broken ones during rotation. I explained they were the only mechanics touching the wheels, no charge.

Are you using a torque wrench or just making them as tight as you can? You could be the problem.
