I have a 2018 Jeep 3.6 auto and a 2018 Ram 1500 work truck with 3.6 auto…. My question is how and why is the Ram 3.6 quieter and more horsepower than the 3.6 in my jeep ? Also, why couldn’t they put the 300 hp ram 3.6 in the jeep ? Oh, to add to my confusion, the ram takes 6 quarts and Jeep takes 5…. @alphawolff it sounds like you work for Jeep, maybe you can way in here? …thanks….

one reason I have read is exhaust routing. more room to run exhaust in the ram perhaps.
The Ram didn’t get the PUG engine until 2019. Your 2018 Ram has the “original” design Pentastar without VVL and EGR. That engine made north of 300 HP in Ram and Challenger/Charger platforms. That is also why oil capacity is different.

The PUG engine in the 19 and up Ram added VVL high lift and EGR, which are mostly for emissions reasons. It retains the higher HP numbers versus our Jeeps due to slight variations in tuning, and by slight, it is extremely slight, but in my testing, the biggest difference is the Ram has way better under hood temperature management. Things get hot on the JL and JT under the hood, which causes timing to get pulled far more aggressively than the Ram. The Ram you can stand between the intake box and the engine. The Jeeps the intake box and intake itself are bumped right up close to the radiator and heat soak a lot easier.

Hope this helps.

So the rattle at start-up I hear about 50% of the time is the timing chain tensioner? Is that a fairly easy adjustment? And if the dealer can't replicate it, is it a known issue they should tighten up anyway while I am still under warranty?
Timing chain tensioner is hydraulic with a spring to hold it in place once oil pressure goes away if I recall correctly. No adjustment can be made, it's an assembly.

I don't think you are. I don't think remorseless is either. I know you spend time with them as he does, but you and he are clearly a bit more mature.

There's a reason Jeep has continually been opening up the grille mesh more and more. First with JT and then with the '24+ Jeeps. The design folks got WAY carried away with the grille inserts IMO.
