After a 45 minute drive this morning prior to shutting the engine off I noticed an engine noise that sounds like it could be maybe something purging or a whine of some sort. It happens about every 15-20 seconds. It did it again on the very next drive. I can hear it while driving but obviously it’s a little harder to hear and doesn’t seem to change with RPMs. It a 2023 with about 20k miles. HPFP done about 1500 miles ago. No other lights or codes. It has a stage 2 delete so I don’t think it would be anything emissions related and a dealer visit will take me about 4-5 hrs work.

Update: This morning when I started it there wasn’t any noise. Once it was up to temp shortly before getting home I could hear it again. This time it was a little louder and was not consistent. It would last for about 5-10 seconds or so. In the driveway it was pretty consistent every 15-20 seconds again. I narrowed the sound down to top of the coolant neck/hose on the front of the engine. I think this is where the thermostat is. I removed the coolant reservoir cap and a considerable amount of pressure released. I let the cap off for about 5 minutes and no more sounds. I put it back on and it still didn’t make any sounds but I didn’t drive it anywhere yet, Just idling in the driveway. I see the cap says 21 psi on it so either I’ve got a faulty coolant reservoir cap or possibly the thermostat going out or maybe some air trapped but I would assume that would purge itself out. I haven’t added or messed with the coolant at all. The coolant looks normal and is at the correct level. I’ll update later as I troubleshoot some more but kinda relieved that it appears to be something simple at this point. I will definitely tell you though once I slowed done enough to hear it over the wind noise it really sounded like a bearing or something was starting to go.

I checked that right after I made sure all the fuses were seated ;)

I’m 99% sure it’s related to the electric power steering crap. Get in after a long drive, roll your windows down and just barely turn the wheel, like an inch. I bet you can replicate this noise on demand.

No idea but would love to know the cause once you find out. Hopefully nothing serious.

PCV valve, A/C system, or EVAP system? My money is on the PCV but you'll get an answer from a tech soon.

So at this point it seems to all be coolant system related. The noise was coming from the thermostat area. There’s a small bleed valve on top of thermostat housing and I was able to bleed off some air and the noise has stopped for now. I don’t know how air could have got in the system and understand that could be a sign of blow head gasket or something severe but the coolant still looks normal and everything else seems fine. I do wonder about the thermostat though. My coolant temp does seem to be all over the place. It almost seems to be stuck open. It takes forever to get to temp (200 ish) but will drop back down to around 170-180 if sitting at a stop light with ambient air around 75-80. What are you guys seeing for temps? Not sure if this is normal.

Im pretty much around 199-204 regardless of ambient temp(aside from dead of winter). If it gets hot out or I'm driving a lot of stop and go it can get up to 215-220 but it goes back down to 199-204. 170-180 seems pretty low IMO.

Just wanted to provide an update. At this point I’ve probably driven about 120 miles without out any further issues. The cure seemed to be to purge air out of the system at the thermostat. There’s a small bleed off cap to let air out. I’m sure there’s a proper method but I just waited until it was completely warmed up and slowly loosened it being careful not to twist it all the way off. I let the air continue to come out until it was nothing but coolant. The noise stopped after the first bleed but I repeated this the next day as well and was able to get a little more air out. The only thing I can think that may have caused this is immediately restarting the engine after shutdown. It seemed to start when I pulled up to a red light and forgot that I had my Tazer removed and didn’t disable auto start. The Jeep shut off and I immediately disabled auto start stop and it restarted immediately. It was shortly after when I noticed the noise. Not sure if that caused it or not but worth mentioning.

Glad to hear you got this solved (hopefully)!
Any chance you can take a pic of this bleeder valve?
