Thanks for the pictures! I do like the size and style of the one you have. The check valve is absolutely a smarter design than a ball valve and it has the cap on it just in case. I will definitely source one of these when I start to do my own oil changes once the warranty is up on my 22. Work covers my Jeep and all PM's and they are the ones that want it done at the dealership. I offered to save them $300 but they said no... go figure. Once the warranty is finished they wont have a valid argument anymore and I can start doing my own service the way I want.

I think it's playing with fire so to speak and unnecessary but that's just me.

A friend of mine recently told me he started changing his oil every 3000 miles still using full synthetic to clear it up and it helped tremendously.

Snazzberry actually. 😉

I did have to put some money down on it to get them to cover the payments... It's in my name so I'm keeping it once they say I need a new vehicle.

My first Jeep was an '85 CJ7 back when I was 16 and this JL is freaking amazing. I've always dreamed of another Jeep when I got rid of my CJ7 but never could afford a new one. Looked into many of used ones but didn't find anything I wanted enough to part with my money.

I still have the rear cargo cubby from the CJ7 and the T5 transmission.

Snazzleberry is one of those equally amazing colors!

Snazzleberry, Tuscaredo, Bikini Pearl, Gecko, some of the best showy colors in the Jeep lineup!

I ended up putting seafoam into mine.
I nearly had an aneurism when I read this……

Keep in mind two things…..

One….if there was any “sludge” throughout the engine, and the product loosened it up further, that sludge is now going to become more prone to clog up the oil pickup screen.

Two….turbochargers like oil, not petroleum based cleaners mixed with oil. In a nutshell…..some turbochargers do not have bearings, and have floating bushings, and these bushings need oil, not SeaFoam!!!

I hope you have no issues going forward. Using quality oils that meet the specs and the correct weight of oil based on ambient temperatures are the best choices.

It’s worked for me over my last five Cummins equipped pickups and about 1,228,000 miles or so (and this doesn’t count the three other Cummins pickups that I’ve seemed to have forgotten the mileages of).

Interesting points. Yeah I know issue so far.

I look at it this way, my Jeep came from the factory with no sludge on the engine or any of the parts like the turbo and such. Cleaning it ain't bad, however keeping seafoam in there for the 5000 miles between each oil change would probably be a bad idea as per your point.

I don't see any issues with cleaning out the sludge. You don't want the sludge anyways. Not that I have any, at least not that I have any now. ;)

But yeah, duly noted.

I only plan on doing the oil sludge cleaning process noted above every 50,000 miles. So I think that's a fairly safe amount of time in between cleanings. And again, I'm not driving around with it and putting strain on the engine, I'm letting it idle for 15 minutes and then doing a hot oil change.

I will say I do agree with you in that you should not do this every oil change. That would be a bad idea. However cleaning out potential sludge every so many tens of thousands of miles, I don't see any issues that myself. But again do clue me in if I'm missing something here. I have been known to miss a few things and y'all have saved my asses quite a few times from doing dumb shit. :CWL:🤗

All this talk of sludge……has anyone actually observed any in one of these engines? If this was 1964 and we were using regular weight SAE oil with no detergents, no crankcase evac systems, then yeah, I’d say there might be sludge in these engines. You’re wasting your money.

Nope, and the plan is not to ever actually observe sludge.
