brand new wrangler and im sick of the keyfob malfunctioning in the cold. I hate needing it to begin with! I want to somehow bypass the need for the keyfob (hotwire?). I have locks on my doors i can utilize just fine. This has been a pet peeve all my life and past vehicles i could make work without a key. Anyone know how this is done? is it a chip/pc thing or a fuse/wire type thing? I sure hope someones got some ideas... or maybe i guess a -40 keyfob/battery might do the job.

I take mine inside when it gets really cold, even though I keep it in the garage. Not maybe the fix you want, but the cheapest.

You could probably tape the RFID chip to the start button behind the dash. Makes it easy to steal if someone breaks in though.

Get a threedom key holder with a pocket for the RFID chip

https://mythreedom.com/products/key_holder

Then use instructions on the threedom site to disassemble your key fob and take out the RFID chip and put it into the key holder. Then use the key on the door, and hold the key right up to the start button when pressing it to start the jeep.

OEM fob batteries are trash. Replace them with a new brand name battery and they instantly work more reliably. I've had to replace all my Jeep fob batteries when new due to barely working in cold weather (have lived in Minnesota and South Dakota).

You could use the Jeep app to start it remotely via your cell phone. You'll still need the fob on you to drive away. You can also use the app to lock/unlock your jeep

I find the question odd and wonder if something else is wrong. My Jeep lives outside, and the only time I had issues with it not seeing the fob was after I snowshoed back to my Jeep about 10 miles through a mild blizzard (about a quarter mile visibility at the greatest). Holding the fob in my hands for 30s warmed it up enough to start it pressed against the start button.

Sorry, but where are you storing your keyfob that it's getting cold enough to malfunction? I like the cold much more than the next person, but my house temperature is still always at least above 45, and the fob being in my pant pocket means that it's a lot closer to body temperature anyway.

If you're talking about your ice fishing shack, then still just keep it in your pant pocket?

I think OP leaves the key in the vehicle at all times, so it reaches the exterior ambiant temperature frequently.

OP- wranglers are frequently the target of thieves, and easy to break into even when locked. You should consider using your key fob as intended. If not - delete this thread, you don't want your insurance company seeing it.

Wow, I know that some rural communities are trustworthy enough to leave vehicles totally unlocked etc, but leaving the keys in the vehicle trustworthy? I don't even like leaving my keys in vehicles when I am in refineries where it's required; and I'm using a vehicle that I genuinely don't care about...
