Tried starting my car a couple days ago and it would not start. It cycled through the three options without turning the engine on and never indicated that the key fob was not detected. I'm guessing there is a disconnect with the brake which is why it wasn't turning on. I finally went and grabbed the spare key fob and it started right up. Since then I have used my main key that gave me the issue and the problem hasn't been replicated. Any have this issue or know what may be the cause?

Seriously, mine was dead as a door nail once after stopping, key would not lock car, then would not do anything. Had to start using keyfob into start button trick, it worked. Seems place I was at had cell towers, uhf, vhf, microwave antennas all over, dealer said it happens there often.

I tried the keyfob to the start button but nothing. What if I was in the middle of a forest camping which I like to do. Does anyone where to stick the actual key in? We have a metal key but no slot to put it in!

The metal key is only for opening doors. You have no option to the Start button. Welcome to Jeep reliability. You are far from the only one with such issues. ?

Great, now I have to take my spare with me everywhere in case it doesn't start.

I'd replace the FOB battery again. But even with no battery, touching the fob to the switch should work every time.
So if I take the battery out then try it should work? I tried with the battery still in the keyfob.

did you check your AUX battery? Might be dead.

I encourage you to read through this whole thread. You will learn lots about the factory fob.... to include how to start the JL with the factory fob even if the fob battery is dead or at that matter missing altogether.

As for this issue you were faced with once... Very well could have been a one time hiccup... a hiccup that could have been caused by more then one reason. Relax and worry about the issue IF... again if... it happens again. DO read all the posts at the link I have given.

You can leave the battery in, just make sure you're touching the side where the metal part is to flip the key open to the start button. That's where the RF pellet is. It may take 2-3 times before it will successfully start.
