Hi all. I just received my factory ordered JL 2-door Sport to replace my identical 2018. I can't believe how different it rides in terms of the steering being tight...no wandering...no shimmy and generally more heavy duty. Given the difference, I can't find anything online (or even the damn dealer couldn't tell me) what changes were made to the 2024's suspension / steering components to make it ride so much better. Does anybody have any info? Thanks!! - Leighton

Nothing was really changed. It’s just a matter of the vehicle having issues such as the steering box addressed at the factory, from one build year to the next.

I'm the original owner of a 2018 JLU that drives tight/heavy duty after updated steering box and track bar installed under warranty. No issues at all.

The steering box was fixed, the trackbar bushings were revised with harder rubber, the steering damper was stiffened up, and the quality issues with the steering column were corrected.

You nailed it Brother! He is on the money, that is what they did...WHY? Well my TJR only weighed about 3500 lbs wet and what does the JL now weight:

2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2.0L Automatic 2-Door SUV
SUV

Model: 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Engine: 2.0 L 4-cylinder
Curb weight: 4,246 lbs

GROSS Weight is 5100 lbs

The Original Rubicon depended upon Mercedes-Benz and Dodge Truck components

I went from 2020 JLU to 2024 here are the changes I know of on the suspension side.

- Tighter stock steering with almost no dead center. To an extent that my off-road shop advised me not to get new steering stabilizer when I lifted and went 37s - the stock setup handled it just as well.
- If you got the 2.0 or the 4xe, there are some minor updates to the engine. The engine air intake box, inlet tube and turbo components have changed. There are some minor part updates around the engine according to the 4xe project manager on the FB 4xe-fans forum.
- The sway bar mounting hole is now M14 and takes larger bolts (or M12 bolts with sleeves)

I just bought a 2024 JL 2 door wrangler soft top. The steering absolutely SUCKS!! The service manager at the dealer told me, "that is the way all Jeep Wranglers are because they have a solid front axle". This is Sandy Sansing Jeep in Foley. Alabama. BULLSHIT!!! I have owned and built Jeeps before this one and NEVER had a problem with steering that needed constant correction to keep it out of oncoming traffic. This one is absolutely dangerous brand new with 8 miles on it when I picked it up. I've had it for 6 months and it has less than 1000 miles on it because it is no fun to drive even with a Fox steering stabilizer set at 15 turns. I'm out of ideas and the Dealer is no help. Any ideas???

The dealer has little incentive to troubleshoot and try to fix your JL. Reimbursements are too low for this type of work.
Assuming you have checked everything in the front end for looseness and proper torque, the steering box seems to be a major cause of wander; it sure was in our 2020 JLR, even after the aluminum box was replaced under warranty. A very slow and careful adjustment of the steering box's sector shaft resulted in the tight steering it should have had from Day 1. It is easy to over-tighten it and damage the box; do this at your own risk.
Installing Mopar's longer LCAs can be of help, increasing the caster into a better range for high-speed stability, something our 2-door models need an extra dose of.

Having owned and worked on TJs and XJs for the past 25 years, steering box problems are common when running large tires and so is adjustment of the steering box. The fix was to use steering boxes from GM large cars of the 70's era. PSC used to sell a big-bore box for the older Jeeps that was the (expensive) cure.

Put a Metalcloak, Steersmarts, or other front trackbar on it.
