For anyone asking about the Banks intake, it sounds good at low rpm but will give you a headache when going uphill for a bit. Additionally, and more importantly, the filter allows A LOT of dust through. If you're going to be around town, this is "ok". However, off road, dusty environments, I found my intake tube covered in dust

I am preparing my 2024 Rubicon X build and I am looking at the CAI option for $525. I am not planning to add a snorkel, but if I were, how difficult/expensive is it to add the CAI aftermarket? Are there other benefits of the CAI on a Wrangler, and finally for those that have it, would you say it is worth it? Thanks in advance!
Everything I have seen there is no performance or gas mileage gain. They look good. But that’s about it

Other than the hood vent / trim piece does anyone happen to have any pictures of the differences between the stock air box / intake tube and the factory CAI air box / intake tube?

From what I've seen around the forum, reddit, etc. in regards to the factory installed CAI option; they appear to no longer cut the hood (as noted in this thread) as apparently they are supposed to ship the hood vent/trim to the dealership and the dealership is expected to install it?

Does the factory installed CAI have a different intake tube with a different resonator than stock? Does the air box still have the small lower routed intake channel to the grill next to the passenger side headlight?

Trying to find any info on the factory installed CAI is like looking for a needle in a haystack; any search for it just turns up pages upon pages of every aftermarket CAI, discussions about why you should/shouldn't get any CAI, and some links to the mopar CAI kit (which is somewhat unclear if it is the exact same as the factory installed CAI?).

EDIT: so after a bit more digging, it seems the factory CAI intake tube is a larger ID than stock and the top of the air box is different; other than that it seems the lower portion of the air box is the same.

Factory install CAI:
  • Larger 3 3/4" ID intake inlet/tube vs stock 3" ID intake inlet/tube
  • Comes with reusable air filter
  • Top of air box being slightly different slope with smooth inside
  • Hood vent & trim (optional, hood not cut and vent & trim not installed from factory)
    • Supposedly intended to be shipped to dealer and dealer installed?

Does that sound correct?

That was what I got out of it as well.

I ended up passing on it, because I didn't want to saw the hood nor did I think my uncalibrated dynobutt could detect it. Now, they are about $100/1 hp, I just don't see the value. YMMV.

Throttle response will probably improve a bit, but the ECU will likely "correct" that over time without tuning.
Is that a real thing?

I only ask because after I got my stage 1 tune on my EcoDiesel, over the last couple months, I've noticed that my get up and go isn't as great as I remember. I mean it's still better than factory by a long shot, But I feel like my pedal response was better when I first got it then it is now.

Then again, it could be that I'm just getting used to how it feels and it doesn't have that new feeling anymore. ?‍♂ ❓

There was a dealer tech here about a year ago that said something to that effect if I'm remembering correctly, but that was in regards to installing a high-flow intake while keeping the factory tune.

If you have an ECU tune designed to take advantage of a larger flow of air, then that improvement shouldn't disappear over time (other than with the filter getting dirty). If your tune was designed with only the factory filter and air flow parameters in mind, then that might be the case, but "getting used to it" could certainly be another reason.

When I swapped to a high-flow panel filter the throttle response definitely felt "zippy" and improved on my ride to work that day, but felt completely normal again on the ride back home.

In 2022 and 2023 there was no reason to order the CAI. I did not order the CAI with my 2022 Sahara or my 2023 Rubicon. This is the way they both came from the factory. All I would need to do is cut out the hood. That should be a lot cheaper then $525...

CAI a waste of money on the Jeep. All you get is more noise and take the chance of water, mud, dust intrusion when off road.

I have the mopar cai, and can attest it hasn’t done much of anything measurable. That’s said, I like idea of it scooping air from outside, particularly here in Florida where under hood temps skyrocket.

I do understand there is a little duct pulling air from the front, that said, sitting in traffic that does nothing. The kit uses the stock lower box and only comes with the upper box and intake hose, pcv connection and new inlet air temp sensor.

It does not have the resonator the stock unit has, probably why it sounds the way it does. Also comes with “cover art?”

Have had it for two years, still like it.

Thanks @JLRyder appreciate the info. I'm guessing from the context of your post you got this after-sale part from Mopar and not as a factory installed option?

I ended up ordering my Rubicon X with the factory option and I'm planning on installing a Rugged Ridge AmFib low mount snorkel to put the inlet on the passenger side cowl rather than cutting the hood.

That is correct, installed on my own. If I recall the factory option is installed by the dealer; sure someone will correct me on that one.

Glad to help!
