I am preparing my 2024 Rubicon X build and I am looking at the CAI option for $525. I am not planning to add a snorkel, but if I were, how difficult/expensive is it to add the CAI aftermarket? Are there other benefits of the CAI on a Wrangler, and finally for those that have it, would you say it is worth it? Thanks in advance!

I have an aftermarket CAI. I notice zero in fuel savings and a very very small difference in performance. The sound it makes however is awesome...except during long road trips it can get annoying.
Which intake do you have?

"Cold air intakes ruined our economy and raped my sister. Stay far away from them, they're the devil." - 90% of everyone on JLWF that also runs a low-hanging dual-outlet catback and fancy underglow rock lights for the same reason.

?

While any performance or fuel economy gains without an ECU tune will likely be negligible, the manufacturer of this factory-installed part states that it provides "noticeable horsepower and torque gains under varying atmospheric conditions", but what do they know?

Just guessing, but real-world gains will likely be under 10HP/TQ in the mid to upper RPM band and maybe 1 to 2MPG increase once the filter gets dirty. Throttle response will probably improve a bit, but the ECU will likely "correct" that over time without tuning.

Adding the part later shouldn't be difficult at all, unless you want to cut out the hood. Also keep in mind that if ordered as a factory option, they will not cut your hood and usually don't even give you that particular part of the kit for some reason.

I haven't bought an intake for my JL yet, but I've certainly spent $500 on far dumber things.

CAI is WAY overplayed and oversold in the after-market space. REALLY, can we gains of almost 20 HP and 5 mpg more mileage? The answer is no and HELL NO! You can barely do that with a SC or Turbo.

But ONE Company got it not only RIGHT but actually produced HP gains and MPG gains

Gues what that was?

This is an OEM CJ air intake and it goes from the air cleaner on the carb to back behind the headlight bucket.

Does it work? You Betcha.

So well in fact that I built the same system for my TJ and YES IT WORKS but the engine is so full you cannot today but Jeep has built one that does provide cooler air and a great sound for the 2024s, I have ordered on my JLR-X. Should be here late this week and will post on how it performs...

I'd add a CAI to my Ecodiesel but the vastly increased airflow would cause more fuel to be injected and tax my already weak fuel pump.

Mopar is selling a product just like all CAI manufacturers. CAIs do NOTHING but sound good. Read Moshimotos write up they also have a video. If you look at the Dyno power bands you'll also notice CAIs actually take away from performance unless you drive at 7k all day 100mph your get maybe +3 hp gains.

Which is contrary to Mopar saying there is a performance gain with it's CAI, but you do you.

I wasted money on a CAI once, never again! I would strongly suggest not messing with the intake side of the engine. All a CAI will do is give you a cool sound and it gets annoying after awhile if you haven’t regeared. No fuel mpg improvements either. If you do opt for a CAI you should replace and retune your ECU for max efficiency. Good luck! Suggest spending your money on other mods.

?. I think if a private company like Moshimoto can do independent research and produce dyno files debunking the CAI amongst many others like Banks as well I'm certain Mopar does not have the magic CAI. They both still sell CAIs too.

However buy it and take it to a dyno then get back to us. I know my run files on DynoJet for my 131" Dyna shows almost zero gains but again its a Harley not a Jeep. I will say I do have all my dyno runs on my Challenger HC tuned and built pushing 985 HP at the rear and the CAI we tried was pure junk.

good luck on your quest.

Still no Mopar CAI dyno test report disproving Mopar's claim or substantiating yours.

Who's deflecting that's an odd statement. Not worth arguing but for argumentative sake buy one and let us know your findings that would be the quest.... prove "Mopar" right.

Edit: I had to add this without going too far into CFM and Air to fuel mixture, combustion and exhaust, lifters and valves...

From Mopar-
"The Mopar Cold Air Intake System increases airflow by as much as 20 percent, boosting torque up to 10 pounds, and power by nearly ten horsepower. All of this while improving fuel economy (one to two mpg depending on driving style)."

20/10/nearly10/1 to 2 maybe mpg however this is at a constant speed, rpm, and ambient as mentioned earlier. That would be 6500 to 7k and above 85mph at 72°F. As far as I know unless your Jeep can fly and has wings these numbers are impossible to maintain.

Just as intake manifolds are explained and engineered for power bands, optimal rpm, speed, ambient, and lift/CFM intake>cam duration.

Dynos pull runs at specific rpm.

So taking 500 for the CAI and maybe saving 1 to 2 mpg I'll split the diff at 1 your CAI will save you 1 gallon every fill at 300 total miles. That's 100 fills I fill 2x a month. In 4.2ish years it will pay its self off lol. Thats if Mopars #s are real. Mopar did not add fuel consumption and stated "depending on driving style" and is why they gave it a 1 to 2 maybe mpg rating.

Wait for it.........mic drop!
