Is your Banks CAI intake too loud where it's annoying on long trips? I've been looking at the banks CAI, however I'm worried about the intake droning...
Hello Bruce, no as mentioned the intake system is rather quiet. It has an integral pressure wave expansion chamber also known as a resonator that reduces back pressure waves and sound.

IMO there is no performance gain in adding a Hi Flo air filter or a CAI system.
The current map you have running is only going to let in the amount of air the computer is asking for. that's it! The best advantage of a Hi Flo or CIA filter is you can wash them and reuse them.
Any easy breathing CIA is defeated with a restrictive stock exhaust. To experience a performance increase, requires both improvements. It's like trying to blow a high volume of air through a cocktail straw...

I have an aftermarket CAI. I notice zero in fuel savings and a very very small difference in performance. The sound it makes however is awesome...except during long road trips it can get annoying.
hey which one do you have?

If you are not planning on the snorkel, then either the factory installed version or aftermarket Mopar version is fine, just remember that the factory installed one does NOT come with the cut-out kit nor the cool little trim piece.
Just wanted to verify this comment - I have factory installed Mopar CAI and it did not come with the trim piece or directions to cut the hood. It probably doesn't do much given that fact, but at the time I ordered it even the dealer couldn't tell me any of this detail so I rolled the dice.

FWIW, if you do use the trim piece and cut the hood, I understand there is a vent of sorts you need to remember to close to keep water out in inclement weather.

Mopar is selling a product just like all CAI manufacturers. CAIs do NOTHING but sound good. Read Moshimotos write up they also have a video. If you look at the Dyno power bands you'll also notice CAIs actually take away from performance unless you drive at 7k all day 100mph your get maybe +3 hp gains.
Most "CAIS" are just ram-air-intakes. With a larger inlet they'll make more power at the very top of the power band as they just flow more air. That being said, unless you're spending your time at redline all day all you're getting is more noise.

I personally like the noise. CAIs are hit and miss though, wouldn't suggest one on a jeep.

I respectively disagree. Modern fuel injected engines are controlled by a computer you can add all the non restrictive hi flow exhaust with a hi flo air cleaner you want (and spend hundreds , thousands doing it) and it wont change what the computer is asking for.. there will be no performance gains that justify what you have just invested. You would need to change the ignition map and programing to see any increase in anything.

I am preparing my 2024 Rubicon X build and I am looking at the CAI option for $525. I am not planning to add a snorkel, but if I were, how difficult/expensive is it to add the CAI aftermarket? Are there other benefits of the CAI on a Wrangler, and finally for those that have it, would you say it is worth it? Thanks in advance!
I put a K&N high flow airfilter in my JLUR I don't believe it give me gains just a throaty sound when I accelerate .

A buddy of mine blew the engine on his Tundra from what appears to be years of sucking dust in through the CAI. I would stay away. Just my .02 cents.

Hi RJ, please help me understand.
Are you saying the volume of air entering the cylinder with a less restrictive intake is not greater than stock and the exhaust gases do not take less effort/energy to expel from the less restrictive exhaust system?

Also, it's my understanding the EFI controller has to maintain a specified air/fuel ratio range in order to meet emission specs.

I whole heartedly agree that remapping and reprograming the controller is a significantly more efficient means to performance benefits.

All I know is I’ve never inadvertently scratched the tires jumping of the limit line until after these two mods were instlled together.

I appreciate your respectful disagreement, thank you. -Paul 2020 JULR 3.6 w/MT.

Yes- I heard the trim piece has a "open" and "closed" setting. It's almost impossible to find the hood cut-out kit (trim piece included) as a stand-alone purchase. It only comes with a after-market Mopar CAI kit. Just a kind soul who bought the kit as aftermarket that did not want to cut the hood may have one available.

Now we're talking science and math. Good job! Not some @sourdough trying to ask for bs to appease his want to purchase something Mopar is attempting to sell. It would be better for Jeep to offer it as an add on for 2k rather then a 500 CAI the people like sour puss would be happier.

Again CAIS do minimal to nothing for gains unless it's a plane flying at 6500 consistent rpm. They won't pay themselves off for about 4 years. But sound good.

For those concerned about rain and the Mopar hood vent. It doesn't matter where you live, There is not enough water in the most torrential downpour of rain to be of concern while driving. If you park outside during a hurricane at just the right angle you might put some water in the airbox.
