Nice! They just made my Jeep more valuable.... more features.

Everyone is cutting costs like crazy. Wonder why?

Sir, request permission to hijack thread: Is there any way to adjust the light sensitivity of our auto headlights? Here in the Pacific NorthWest we are constantly driving in and out of forested areas, and the constant turning on and off of the headlights is annoying. My other cars don't seem to have this problem. Ideally, I'd like to make the lights come on when it's a little darker, and for them to turn off when it's a lighter brighter.
I don't know of any way to do what you and I want. I believe the interior light brightness is connected to the headlight behavior, all kicked on/off by the light sensor. This is the most aggravating aspect of my Jeep.

A little off-topic, but the best night button in the JL is the Screen Off button. I could live without the footwell dimmer, but Screen Off is a godsend. I live in a rural part of the world. Plus, we’re a “Dark Sky” community with minimal street lighting. The screens of modern cars are a scourge when driving on a truly dark night, and figuring out how to turn them off (for instance, in my wife’s Mazda) is distracting. The Screen Off button is such a gift. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
I grew to need a dark cabin while in the Navy on the bridge. We used to darken everything as much as possible. Every little indicator light was covered with tape. I completely support your Ted Talk and agree the button is a godsend.

Ah, OK. Pretty sure I do not have lights in those locations anyway so that's why it never seemed to do anything :)
Even the basest of base models had the door handle lights. Make sure the headlights are on, the cluster dimmer is not set to daytime (set to the first notch down into dim) and you'll see the door handle lights.

If the headlights are off, or your dimmer is set to full brightness, those ambient lights are off.

I've a 2021 Sport with two dimmer control wheels adjacent to the headlight control knob.

The right wheel controls the brightness of the gauges, HVAC controls and the Uconnect screen when [at least] the parking lights are turned on. Moving the wheel to its top detent position will turn the interior lights on.

The left wheel controls nothing. The vehicle's door handles are not illuminated, and the dim LED lights in the cup holders have fixed illumination.

--------------------

Specifications can vary amongst models, and model years, as this thread makes plain. Asserting what a particular trim has or doesn't have may only serve to prove one mistaken.

Just wondering, does your wheel have 2 detents and a sweep or just 1 detent?

Think if mine only had a single detent at the top for the dome light, with the rest being a smooth sweep with a higher brightness level at the top (instead of at the middle detent), I really think it'd be 100x better to deal with.

I honestly find it hard to believe that anyone at Jeep even tested this piss-poor design irl.

I thought auto-brights would be a cool feature but I find that I disable them 90% of the time for this exact reason.

Seems. 2018-21 all jeeps had both wheels whether they had the ambient lights or not. Now you get ambient lights and no way to shut them off on the trims that come with them. I'd rather they just took the lights out too. I don't need light at my floor unless maybe I drop a contact lens or something.

It has two detents. One for the interior lights, and a second to lock in full gauge brightness. "Free rolling", so to speak, occurs when adjusting the backlighting from dim to dark.

Edit: Three detents, actually, since there's also one when the gauge lights are fully dimmed/turned off.

I remember those days, having worn contact lenses for 12 years before having LASIK surgery. It took just one lost lens, and the replacement expense, to make me doubly careful when handling them. ?

I preferred the two dials on my 2022, you could set the cabin lights to a level you liked and forget about it.
Now if you turn the cluster lights up the cabin lights get dimmer,
Someone at jeep has to much time on there hands.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I think it was voted the most useless switch in the Jeep.
My aux switched hooked up to nothing begs to differ LOL

Totally agree. Probably the most annoying aspect of my new JLUXR. Close second would be all the reflections in the windshield from the stupid chrome on the steering wheel.

I have no lights in my door handles, and the cup holder lights are not affected in the least by that left-hand dimmer.

Near as I can tell, on my 2021 Sport S that dimmer does absolutely nothing.

I assure you that you do indeed have door handle lights at the very minimum. They ALL do.

You're also the perfect example of why they simplified it down to one dimmer. Although, I'll miss the ability to control the dash lights and ambient lights independently with our new 2023.
