I used to use K&N's back in the days, witnessed nice performance increases on test benches, but with the better and increased quality of nowadays filters, it is of no surprise to me they outperform K&N's. Besides that, how such a K&N performs, is user dependent. I've seen people clean them in a wrong way, use way too much and too little oil, etc... They were (my) number one choice for racing, but wouldn't buy them anymore, at least not for a regular road vehicle.
