I was Gung ho on the GDE tune until I came across the ram forums where they were talking about used oil analysis and high fuel delusion with the oil.

One member on the ram forums had a fleet of 1500 eco-diesels and he removed the tune from all of his trucks after used oil analysis

I saw the same posts. I talked to GDE about the findings and they said the tune has been tweaked and they haven’t heard anyone else having the issue. The rep sounded knowledgeable and sincere. I hope they got it all sorted out.

This was what they replied to me when asking. I took this to mean if I’m not running a lot of highway and heavy loads this may not be for me.

Oil dilution is based on drive cycle, short runs it tends to be higher as oil never reaches operating temps for long enough to evaporate the fuel getting past rings. VM allows roughly 14% dilution and we are well below that. If the engine is running for longer than an hour, measured oil dilution would drop to near nil again. Pulling a trailer evaporates fuel very quickly. This engine has low tension piston rings and tends to have higher oil dilution vs. Gen2 engines. We have not seen any adverse oil analysis for wear metals with GDE tuning. All Gen3 engines show elevated Aluminum with respect to Gen2 engines, stock or tuned

So I have been on the tune for little over two years. I am at 71k. Can't attest to cleaner oil becasue I had the tune installed before my first oil change. Still love the difference in the power and the transmission tune. I have the unique ability to contrast it because we haven't tuned her '21. Def usage id higher in my '22 than her '21 and her DEF usage went down after the Y91 update. Can't really give a downside except that I know I am on my own as far as anything mechanical.

This has been my biggest question/concern about getting the GDE tune. Working at a dealer, how seriously you find that the GDE tune hampers your ability to get warranty anything done? I know the official line is it will void your warranty, but do you have any inside information you can share, or does it really depend on how the dealer is about stuff like that?

Really depends on the dealer. I also have a Tazer installed and that restricts the StarScan from “seeing” into the Jeep. Got the fuel pump replaced under the recall with no issues. Haven’t had any other issues and since I hit 50k I have been. Shortening my oil change interval to 5k and fuel filters to 10k. I now work at a Chevy dealership but the group has a few CDJR points so I probably won’t have any issues.

What I would be interested in seeing is fuel dilution without the GDE tune so that it could be compared with the tune. If the dilution with the tune is drastically higher then there is a lot of wasted fuel. And that isn't a good thing.

I would think that there is less because I get better fuel economy with the tune. I also almost never take short trips and the engine always gets fully warmed up every time I drive it.

I will have a data point for you all in a little over a month > I am quite curious as well, as to impact.
Been performing UOA for the life of my EcoDiesel. Right before implementing the tune, Fall '23, swapped out the oil.

Average, one way, work, commute is ~14 miles. Now, that could vary from highway speeds to pretty slow/congested traffic. Occasionally, get out for the longer 100+ long run on weekends.

As for drivability, absolutely love the tune so far. Acceleration vastly improved, lag nearly eliminated, plus it now sounds like a proper diesel. Sure, it does hold a gear longer for the first few miles, to bring temps up. I just don't hammer on it during this period.

Please be sure to post the results. I am very interested, and I am sure others will be as well.

Still love the tune. When it’s cold and you take your foot off the throttle to come to a stop it feels like a manual with the clutch engaged.

Following up, as promised. Received today and I still need to fully digest.
Jeep Wrangler JL Green Diesel Tune Drivability 1723087130986-a7

Viscosity has been low across the board, possibly due to shear? Oil has always been the mopar 68524020AA that one receives with the wave services.
I am targeting another ~7K miles or so this round and then will likely switch to Motul's 8100 X-Clean.
Tune still drives great btw.

Hi All
Resurrecting this 'old' thread and first post so go easy. I have a 2021 with just 10k miles and stock 32 MT's, probably go to AT 33's once the OEM tires are shot...it is stock and the HPFP recall has been performed so not too worried about that at this point. I have installed a Banks iDash Super Gauge that I use to monitor 'vitals', a Start/Stop Eliminator and I run Hot Shots EDT with every other fillup. I even have a new spare PCM...my question is to GDE tune or not to tune while in warranty period? I have no problem with stock performance but I do have a problem with the EPA's mandatory systems and doing any unneeded premature damage to this powerplant. With all this said, how do you all that have the tune feel about the tune's correlation to reliability and longevity? Should I throw caution to the wind and tune it or stay stock until later when near the 100k mile mark? Thanks in advance to anyone providing their input...
