Which engine do you prefer in a JLUR? The 4cyl turbo or the V6 eTorque?

does one appear to be more reliable than another?

You will receive different opinions. We have two 3.6 engines in the Family. One is the original 3.6, the other is the updated PUG 3.6. They have both been bullet proof. I am not going to bad mouth the 2.0, but it is just not for me. One last comment, there have been over 10 million of the 3.6 engines sold, in many different models. So this is the Factory go to engine. That speaks for it’s self.

Personally, I went with the 2.0L. It seemed a little less complicated than the 3.6/eTorque combo. I know the 2.0 garnered a lot of skepticism early-on, but I think its safe to say its proven itself to be reliable by this point. The 3.6 is also a great engine, but the eTorque adds a bit of complication to it that might be an issue out-of-warranty.

Neither! Get the V8! The 4 banger felt slow to me. The v6 e torque gets SHIT mpg if you ask me. Sure it gets 20mpg going 55mph on stock everytthing. But the second you drive it like a man, it TANKS. Mine is usually around 13-14 city and 16-17 highway. And I dont drive it hard or to redline ever. I go 80MPH to keep up with the flow of traffic where I live. I dont live in a go super slow area.

I wish I got the V8. I might as well have smiles getting 12MPG vs anger with a slower v6 that gets me 14ish.

You're the first person I've seen say the 2.0 felt slow. Compared to the 392 sure, but it is certainly no slouch. I have the 2.0 in a two door and that thing is a rocket. Also have a 4xe which is second fastest behind the 392, but OP didn't ask about the 4xe.

The little turbo has some get up and go. Definitely some fun to drive.
Once you get into the boost, these things definitely rippp. I guess I can see why some would prefer the way the 3.6 feels though. Really, OP should drive all the options and see what they like. And not just a quick spin around the block either. Find a dealer that will let you take them around town and on the freeway to see how they feel.

They're neither here nor there in terms of reliability versus each other, it'll come down to personal preference. The 3.6 has been around longer but has its fair share of high mileage head issues and leaks, but the 2.0 is a hot-running turbo engine by Fiat that isn't without its own potential issues.

I personally like the way the 3.6 sounds and drives much more than the 2.0, but others feel the opposite. The sporty burble and smooth delivery does it for me on the 3.6 where the 2.0 sounds like a household blender had sex with a Nissan Versa. The 2.0 does indeed have a tiny bit more pep.

I went with 3.6 because:
1) My commutes are super short. Not enough distance to properly warm up the turbos.
2) 2.0 not available with 6MT.

It has enough to move but I’d definitely appreciate some more torque, will be tuning the 2.0. I think 350 ft lbs would be nice. My 2.0 in my GTI went 100k miles making 370 ft lbs without a single issue, I wouldn’t be worried about creating more torque in the wrangler
