So, I made a mistake. It was cold this morning as I was packing up for Moab. I needed to load the Jeep so I opened the rear soft top window and put it up like I always do. The thing snapped in half! Ugh.

Anyone have a rear soft top window that they’re trying to get rid of? I’m going across country Tuesday and I don’t want to deal with dealers…

That sucks. Bestop just posted they will be closing for the holidays.

I’d get on the phone with Quadratec right away.

Good luck.

How cold was it?

I too have to raise the rear soft top window on occasion. Knowing the temperature at which doing so brings with it extra risk would be helpful for all soft top owners reading this thread.

Could you post a pic, OP? I've unhooked the sides and lower bar of the back window and flipped it over the top of the Jeep to get better access to the back. It's pretty flexible that way and I'm having a hard time seeing how it would crack.

Happened to me in my old TJ soft top when camping. I had the rear window rolled up for trailing during the day. Then went to go pack up the next morning in the cold and I unrolled the window and the window was so brittle that it broke into a bunch a pieces ?

It's a 2023 JL... how old could the canvas be??

Is this a thing? you can break a new soft top in the cold?
Oh yeah. As much as tops have changed and gotten better for the Wrangler over the years, the plastic is still garbage. Look at it wrong and it scratches. Graze it slightly while it's cold and it cracks.

Yet another reason this old man likes a GLASS window.?. Seriously though, what a bummer to happen right before a trip. I’d strongly encourage you to get that puppy inside a Heated garage, and then after it has warmed do the gorilla tape thing. As stated earlier, it won’t be pretty but it will keep ya from freezing while driving. (I suggest getting the top and plastic window warm before taping as it will be more pliable and less likely to incur additional damage while you’re trying to patch it. Good luck!

The vinyl windows can crack if they get cold enough and you try to bend it, as vinyl does. It’s gotta be cold for that to happen though. I haven’t had any trouble around and just below freezing.

Yeah the vinyl just doesn't like being bent in the cold. If I have to open the window when freezing or below I try to have a second person hold it out away from the jeep so it doesn't crack.

Just the window portion I assume?

If so, go get a roll of this:

It won’t be pretty, but it won’t come off either.
Ive duct taped it. It’s holding just fine. Temporary solution.

I can tell you, it is. It broke where the plastic attaches to the canvas.
