We had it on family members XJ and ZJ in the 90s and then WJ and when it was announced that this awesome t-case was available on the Wrangler Saharas in 2018, I didn’t even second-think it and traded my beloved 10A Rubicon for it.

Haven’t looked back. Heck, it is the reason why I originally bought this wrangler and is the reason why I hold-on to it.

Best winter Wrangler ever built?

I wish it was like the Selec-Trac in my KJ, where it's permanent 4WD with the center diff open to allow turning on dry surfaces. I originally wanted it in my JL, but once I read that it's just automatically engaging 4HI with the center diff locked I didn't care as much about getting it.

I wish it was like the Selec-Trac in my KJ, where it's permanent 4WD with the center diff open to allow turning on dry surfaces. I originally wanted it in my JL, but once I read that it's just automatically engaging 4HI with the center diff locked I didn't care as much about getting it.
Not sure that's how it works.

Selec-Trac gives you several modes: 2WD, 4-Hi Auto (formerly known as 4-Hi Full-Time), 4-Hi Part-Time, N and 4-Lo Part-Time.

In 4Hi Auto, the system runs on 2WD until it detects slippage in the front; at that point it engages the front driveshaft automatically but still allowing front and rear to turn at different speeds.

The system locks at the center ONLY when you engage one of the Part-Time modes, just like Command-Trac or Rock-Trac do.

Got it. I wish 4H auto then just defaulted to a 48/52 split or whatever, but at least kept you in 4WD. I love the 4 full in the KJ for snowy roads, nice to just have it in 4wd and not have to worry about binding or it shifting into 2wd.

It's pretty much the only option I really wanted to get on my factory order because its super nice for winter. It was interesting at the time (April 2020?) I was looking like there were pretty much zero Jeeps with the feature equipped on the lots.

I was placing my order and couldn't believe that this was a cheaper option than some silly options. Seemed like a no brainer, and I'm almost looking forward to snotty NJ winter roads to try it out ;)

Selec-Trac is sweet, no doubt. But if I had to choose between getting just the Selec-Trac or just the LSD, I’d get the LSD.

The anti-slip diff does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to keeping the vehicle moving in winter driving.

I got Selec-Trac on my '21 Willys, so I got the LSD too...

Not to derail the thread, but but of curiosity, does anyone know if the CV axle shafts that come with selec-trac are stronger than the standard shafts?

Did a little digging a while back and didn’t come up with anything.

My only regret ordering a Sport is that Selec trac wasn't available.

I did get the LSD and I only used 4WD 4 times last winter, but I would have liked the automatic mode.

My last car, a VW TIguan w/AWD and winter tires was a monster in snow. Blizzards didn't phase it one bit on the highway. And it was amusing pulling up next to a big 4WD vehicle at the stop light and pull away like the road was dry.

Our 2019 Wrangler had Blizzak snows; regretted we didn't have select trac. Highways here are poorly plowed. Ontario. So we have intermittent snow/ice. I was a ski instructor for about 35 years, 6 days a week. I love snow.
So far don't have snowtires on the Rubi. It has the Rubi version of select track. Hope it snows soon.

I don't know if they make them big enough for Wranglers, but I had the Michelin X-Ice on my VW and they were awesome.
Didn't really feel that the Blizzaks for the JLU were an advantage. Often take quick 300 mile trips on the Cdn equivalent of interstate.

Had Michelin X-Ice Snow on the Forester. I liked them.

Issue with the Wrangler and now the RUBI is weight. Have a small garage with no room for tire storage. Taking them down to the basement and back up is a real hazard at my age. Frankly I can't do it anymore. (Broken shoulder; Broken tib/fib; That's the short list. They've healed but I've aged since.)

Your suggestion is really helpful. I keep reading tire tests. And I've had maybe 3? 4? sets of those Michelins and I prefer them over Blizzaks.

Have the stock all terrain BFG KO2/s on. Load Range C.

The VW forum that I was previously part of had a lot of Canadians, and they recommended the X-Ice and the Nokian Hakkas the most. The Michelins were half the cost of the Hakkas at the time and almost equally rated...

Winter tires makes a huge difference. In snowy conditions, my wife's FWD Honda Civic with winter tires will run circles around my son's AWD Subaru Impreza with all-season tires.
