As others have mentioned, I really dislike the whole Bro-Dozer look. It makes me embarressed to be a Jeep owner sometimes. I mean what in the name of god is going on here???

I get the whole customization thing but a lot of these rigs gross me out.

^^^ this!

Jeep ought to offer a boxy crossover vehicle for those who want a Wrangler just for the looks.

On second thoughts, never mind. Jeep built it and it turned out a POS...

Turns out, a box without the capability of solid axles, the interior room limitations of body-and-frame construction, the road hugging weight, and the shitty MPG...is just a box...
Can personally vouch for this. October of 2019, wanted a new Jeep for graduating college and to retire my trusty modded KJ from DD duties with 210k on it. Didn't like the Cherokee styling, didn't want a 2.4 anything, so bought a new Rene TH with the 1.3T. Thought it'd have great MPG and be nice on road with some off road ability.

No.

Every time I took it off road on more than a dirt road, had to get the PTU replaced under warranty for a service 4WD light. Also it could not handle mountain driving - I forgot how many times it hit 240 or 250 degrees driving in Colorado. Only vehicle I've ever driven out there that's had issues (and that includes a 200k mile Land Rover LR3). It was OK on road, but sat very low and didn't have much pep. JLU is a smoother and more luxurious ride. Tried lifting it with a small spacer kit and had nothing but weird vibrations and clunks. Put it back to stock after a week of ripping it apart everyday to try to find the issues. Decided this past June after it needing the third PTU replacement to trade it on my JL - the Rene hardly made it to the dealer it was banging and vibrating so bad. Dealer didn't care since it was under warranty. They sold it within a week of listing it.

Funny thing is, people act like the JLs get bad MPG. Mine actually costs less than the Rene in fuel since it doesn't need 91 octane and still gets 21 mpg versus 26 in the Rene. Love the JL so much more.

This.

Weirdly, all of mine want to be called the same thing: “the Jeep.”
That's where ours has ended up. "The Jeep" or "The Willys" (wife mostly likes that one).

I actually don’t mind the bro dozer look. I mean I don’t like it personally but I can appreciate the time, effort, and money someone put into something to make a “show” truck basically. Some of them flow together really well and I can respect that level of determination to do it right.

Still think it looks horrible.

Yeah, well...I have a real negative reaction to people who go around screaming "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"...Whether it's vehicles or clothes or hair or piercings or ink or pets...if you make your choices based on what gets attention from other people, you're stupid.

That explicitly includes those guys who want to look like they're heading out to run spec ops in a hostile AO...Militarized jeep, milspec boots, "tactical" clothing...on the way to a hot insertion at Starbucks...yeah, pal, you're badass. Lemme just have a look at your DD214. Flipping wannabes.

Now, get the frack off my lawn.
Is that a thing? Can I just ask some duded up milspec jackhole for their DD214 when they're posing? That changes everything...

My Sahara got 21 MPG a long time ago...

Now it barely breaks 15 MPG; 13 MPG if I insist in driving around town.

Of course, we all carry our DD-214s with us wherever we go.

What about a regear - didn’t I recall U did that too?
Yes. The Jeep drives a LOT better now. But the effect on fuel economy was marginal. MPG went from 12/14 to 13/15.

I can now get 17 MPG on the freeway...as long as I don’t exceed 65 MPH.

Haha, yes I'm enjoying basically being stock for now. I'm sure that'll change.

We had 53,000 basically trouble free miles, except I didn't trust the transmission and traction control software. It did weird stuff in 2WD when you didn't want it to. But when it was offroad, it was fine. Never had a heating problem, and it gets 100+ here during the day for 6-8 weeks every year. We did the math on the premium/turbo vs. V6 87 octane question also, and figure 21 was what we needed to offset 25 and premium. That's how we ended up with the Wrangler. The Renegade had a lot of gravel road and rough dirt road mileage on it, we used the 4WD functions every month. But the hill hold downhill cruise thing was STUPID. We both hated it. Lot of winter driving in three years, it was my commuter.

We like the Wrangler a lot better also. It's way more of an off-roader. The only thing is, we're not getting 21+ anymore, more like 19.2-19.6 commuting (80 mph zones), and 20-20.5 on the hwys. The winch, bumper and true trac have eaten a little MPG. But, it's fantastic offroad now, just air down and go anywhere you want.

The thing I don’t get is the massive number I saw when I visited a friend in PA. I saw at least 3-4 a day when I went out driving, and there were almost none at the dealership.

If nothing else the taillights are so damn ugly.
My wife's take on the tail lights: "Are they saying it's dead?"
