Hi everyone,
I just joined today. This is my third Jeep. Iāve had a Comanche, a 2007 JK and now a 2021 Rubicon. My background is Volunteer Sheriff, Search & Rescue, Emergency Communications, CERT Instructor and Coordinator. My JK was my SAR vehicle and kicked butt. Now, Iām āretiredā due to failing health and a rare cancer. Wanted one more Jeep before I die so I got everything I wanted and I LOVE this vehicle. Looking forward to learning about new Jeeps and hopefully meeting some Jeep people!
On the JL Rubicons, the water from the hood vents crosses over between the hood, and hood underlay cover. It drains out the sides of the hoods by the fenders. The top of that covering has a Visqueen type material. as it deteriorates the water damages the liner. I have a new liner on order for mine. But it is on back order. That is the discoloration that you are seeing.I have similar marks under my hood, but I know where they came from. I was getting crazy in the rain out in Holopaw at Suburban Estates. Going out there next weekend. That being said, mine does have the engine cover. ?

I'm fairly confident that the majority of people that are...
The question still stands. This engine, and year model... why?
Unless someone at Jeep/Stellantis hangs around here and has the authority to divulge such information, we're pretty much left with only speculation as to the true reason why.I got that part, but it still doesn't explain the decision.
Was it a supply issue, cost, or other?
Saying it is not needed and ok to not have does not answer the question as to why it will no longer be provided.
Intriguing question that no one is answering - speculation only.
Thumbs up for the 100 posts.
Nail on head I think.I'm fairly confident that the majority of people that arefrustratedlypatiently waiting for Jeeps that they ordered in October would jump at the opportunity to speed up their delivery if given the option of not having that piece of plastic.
Any other speculation about why is just that: speculation. It's unlikely that an official representative will pop in to justify just a "significant" deletion.
See above, please.Unless someone at Jeep/Stellantis hangs around here and has the authority to divulge such information, we're pretty much left with only speculation as to the true reason why.
Seeing as they've had similar issues getting the Mopar floorliners for customer orders, I'm personally guessing that it's due to the plastics shortage (among many other recent supply chain shortages and related problems).
Compared to early Jeeps, I'm sure there's a lot of shit on a modern Wrangler that we really don't need or that otherwise serves no useful purpose other than being a minor cosmetic touch as envisioned by the designers. Jmo, but as long as the damn mounting holes for the cover remain on the engine, the cover itself should be included (or shipped to the customer when available), regardless if the part is actually 'necessary' or not.
I'm sure it was complained about nonstop when they first introduced the engine covers to hide their mess.

Yeah, I really wish I knew man. I work in a different industry than automotive, but everything's been upside down since the pandemic started. Used to be able to have a customer say, "hey, I want this product, here's money, order it please" and could pretty much have just about anything in a few days. For almost 2 years now, it's still a backwards mess and I'm left telling them "sorry, it's out-of-stock, everything is out-of-stock and I have no idea when I'll be able to get that for you. Something similar will likely show up in a few weeks, but #XYZ widget.. no clue." Just had a sales guy from one of our distributors tell us their entire company is halting backorders - for everything. Thousands and thousands of name-brand products, and instead they'll be emailing us stock alerts with a few minute window of time to secure an order. Been in this business for decades and haven't seen anything like it before. No chips, no plastic... what is next?
Just inquiring minds wanting to know; buy now and be patient/frustrated, or later, and be really patient/frustrated. Possibly?
Maybe I've been out of the auto business too long, but this kind of thing is just weird, and I'm curious.
Be frustrated.Kinda cheesy if U ask me. $50k + & No engine cover? Itās not the point, If itās needed or not. I expect it! ⦠I guess we really donāt need floor mats eitherā¦. Whatever, Just build my XR already!
Iāll tell ya what frustrates me, Reading about all the folks that have been waiting, Since October & still donāt have there Jeeps! Yes, I am excited for my new build. But I have my 2 dr to keep me company for now. It Also has a engine cover! LolBe frustrated.
This has become a movement now.
Someone needs to commission a flag for our 3.6er brothers and sisters.
Oh, you know it definitely was.I'm sure it was complained about nonstop when they first introduced the engine covers to hide their mess.![]()
Yeah, I hear you. Let us hope soon that this discussion is ridiculed for the weirdness that it is.Yeah, I really wish I knew man. To be honest, as much as I'd prefer to have an engine cover, I'd probably be okay giving it up to ensure my order went into and out of production as soon as possible. Still think something like that should be shipped to the customer or dealership later on, but I guess it beats not having your order at all.
The engine cover was deleted right after the merger with Peugeot. I was told it was a cost cutting measure by Stellantis. The engine cover, does have some plastic in the material composition. Plastics are in serious shortage, so that would be my guess. I removed my engine covers, on both of my Wrangler. Just to allow the engine to dissipate the heat better. But I am in AZ. and it gets pretty hot under the hood in our Summers.
