Oh wow... I didn't realize it was from Quadratec. I would doubt this is a 'pricing error'. Zautomotive seems to be one of those companies that rarely sells at a discount, e.g.; Teraflex. Companies like that generally drop dealers who sell under MAP. I'm more willing to believe that there's a new product on the horizon or they had inventory buildup and sold them a large bulk order with approval to discount them otherwise the price would have been corrected within hours, not up for days.

Whatever, but I'm glad I got in on it.
@mbartelt

When ZAutomotive / Joe found out/was told about this lets call it, low ball (under MAP) pricing, I'm confident he contacted Quadratec immediately and said what the fruck...... But with the weekend and with Amazon.... (communication headaches) in the picture it took time... a couple of days to shut down/halt that pricing.

SO, a bunch of guys got a great price on a Tazer JL Mini...

I can see that happening. I can also imagine that Z placed several restock orders, due to coof and shipping delays, might have had several orders arrive at port at once, causing all those orders likely come to term all at once necessitating a certain amount of units to be quickly sold.

Quadratec DID change their price which they wouldn't have needed to selling on Amazon, just update their quantity available. It's very possible it was accidental. I don't see these units as being sold below cost, so there very well could be a backdoor deal involved.

We'll likely never know the truth as Z probably wouldn't admit any of this because of their desire to protect the wholesale / retail supply chain from getting pissed. Even if it wasn't an accident, it's likely the only reason Quadratec would publicly state. Quadratec is a large company with lots of cash on hand and I could see them help bail out a smaller company in a crunch.

No matter, I was never planning on buying one at full price, but will end up buying a forward facing camera at some point in the really near future.

FYI, Quadratec's seller name on Amazon is Tactik 4x4 (same as their house brand wheels). Depending on the item, I've found a few different deals that were better than direct from the QT site.

FWIW, I received a pre-ship UPS notification from Quadratec.

Yeah, after I read that I checked their store page and saw that. And a number of retailers will do the same thing on Amazon as well.

For those getting the Tazer JL's do consider going to ZAutomotive's website and buying the 2 yr. Tazer JL warranty that Joe sells for $20.00.

Even though you bought from one of his resellers.... you can still buy the 2 yr. warranty from Joe.
https://www.zautomotive.com/product/z-automotive-warranty/

Of course, if you have not done so, do yourself a favor and buy the SGW Extension Cable at $29.00.
https://www.zautomotive.com/product/z_sgw_ext/

Along those lines, if it fails out of warranty, what does Joe do for his customers?
I assume we are primarily paying for the programming (and updates). I can't believe the hardware cost is very much beyond a programmable chip in a plastic box.

On the cable, I thought the advantage of the mini was it plugged into a differnet port and you could just leave it plugged in. Is the extension mainly just for the ease of removal/reinstall when taking the rig to the dealer.

Along those line, I wonder how dealers feel about this item?

Thanks for the original heads up, btw.

@LuvYella

Why do you think ZAutomotive sells extended warranties, would be my ? to you...

While Joe at ZAutomotive is far more generous lets say then many vendors.... I doubt he would just give a guy/gal out of warranty (I would not count on it anyway) a new Tazer JL Mini when the user, say bricked their Tazer JL ... and this does happen... $20 for 2 yrs is cheap cheap insurance .

Once you do the install of the Tazer JL and knowing you have to uninstall the Tazer JL Mini everytime you go to the dealer............ WELL, then you will understand why you really want to have the SGW Extension Cable.

Lots of posts on the forum in regard to Dealer and a guy having a programmer installed.... Do read... IN SHORT THOUGH.... anyone that does not uninstall a Tazer JL before bringing a JL to the dealership Service Dept. is stupdio lets say..

I think you misunderstood my question. I'll contact them sometime after I get my jeep and get it installed, assuming I ever get my jeep ?

My question was simply me trying to calculate the cost vs benefit of the warranty.

In properly designed electronics, once you get past the infant morality, they tend to last a long time. I wouldn't ever expect a free replacement but I would expect a reasonable repair offering.

On the cable I'm sure you are correct. Again, no jeep yet so I wouldn't know.

I'll see what I can dig up on the programmer/dealer question.

I am very familiar with infantile mortality in regard to electronics.... I also know that a user can "brick" a perfectly good device, thanks to his/her stupidity / by accident.... and at no fault of the device.

With that said, you brick your Tazer JL, and are out of warranty, I am doubtful ZAutomotive is going to send you a new Tazer JL Mini to replace a bricked unit.. Sure, could happen as Joe is generous... a decent guy but...

In regard to a $359 device... $20 for 2yrs. warranty is something to consider... To each his own..

Just got mine in the mail today also, now if we only had Jeep’s to use them on lol.
Dang... some of you got those FAST. I'm at FedEx but still looking at 9/16-9/21 for delivery. But that said I am going to circle back and buy the SGW Extension Cable.

@Rhinebeck01 sure has me thinking about the extended warranty, but those sure hard to swallow when they overlap with the regular warranty. Why can't they just engage AFTER the main warranty is over. But this isn't a Z thing... everyone does it.

I'm still happy I snagged this deal even though my wife doesn't understand. ?

I never told the wife, but I think I’ll get the warranty once it gets here (says tomorrow) and the video cables for the front facing camera from him. I already have the extension cable. I want to hook up the front camera as i had it in my JK.
