Reading through the instructions it looks like the ignition needs to be in run with the engine off for changing vehicle settings, and then to change the live settings the ignition needs to be in run with the engine running.

If I want to change both the vehicle settings and live settings do I need to do the vehicle settings first and then the full reboot followed by two sleep cycles before proceeding to starting my Jeep and changing the live settings? Or can I change the vehicle settings, start my Jeep, change the live settings, followed by a full reboot and two sleep cycles?

Well the worst thing that would happen if you didnt do 2 cycles before changing the settings with engine running would be losing the off cycle ones. Now that I know what happens when you dont cycle it (dead battery), I'd just go for doing the 2 cycles after each so I know it was done for sure. Also, there was a version update a couple months ago that added more features if you havent done that yet, might be the perfect time.

At the end you're also supposed to do a 20 min drive on the highway for calibrating tires etc.

It’s the two sleep cycles after making changes. Page 6 of the instructions.

It is difficult to give better instructions than what is shown by Tazer. Just do it like you are reading
My question isn’t addressed by the instructions. That’s why I asked here, from people who have experience with the product. Thanks for your contribution anyway.

I believe/think the post by @PaulW was just meant to tell you the info is in fact clear in the instructions.

Reading/comprehending the instructions will serve you well... It's a crap shoot sometimes in regard to what you read on the forum, especially Tazer JL wise.

I can tell you that based on your original post you need to go back and read read, read the instructions.

I’ve read through it several times and the specific question isn’t addressed. I ended up doing the reboot and two sleep cycles twice as a fail safe, but I was wondering if I could avoid half of that process, if possible.

Perhaps I did not do the exact sleep cycle as called for. I turned ignition to OFF, opened the door to kill the radio etc and closed the door. At that point, the dash was off in a few seconded so I proceeded. After doing the live programming with the engine running, I did the cycles but thought I screwed up because the engine would not start. So I did two more sleep cycles and then all seemed good. I must have missed the part where the instructions state that the engine may not start immediately due to the time it takes to program changes to take affect. BUT before I left the vehicle, I made certain that the dash turned off as that is the battery killer.

I’m willing to bet that had I done the live settings changes first that I would have been able to do just one full reboot & 2 sleep cycles.

Reason I say this is because full reboot isn’t even available while changing the live settings and the engine is running. You have to turn the Jeep off and then take the ignition back to run (without the engine running) to get to the menu options that include full reboot. At that point we should be able to make all the vehicle settings….resulting in just having to do one full reboot/sleep cycles.

I didn't follow the directions and ended up buying a $250 battery thinking I had a bad battery which ended up being the tazer draining it lol. Note to self "read the directions" lol

I sent an inquiry to Z automotive with my two questions from this thread and they answered them today.

As far as needing to full reboot and perform two sleep cycles….not needed to be done twice. Only after doing the vehicle settings (engine off) changes do you need to do the full reboot and two sleep cycles. When you change the vehicle settings it is stored in the BCM. Live settings are stored in the Tazer itself, and do not require a full reboot and two sleep cycles.

So that leads to the custom settings that are retained when you unmarry your Tazer. All the live settings will be restored when you marry it again. But since the Tazer restores your settings back to whatever they were before you married it, your custom vehicle settings will be overwritten and returned to “stock” when it’s unmarried. So you will have to set your vehicle settings (engine off) when you re-marry after a dealership visit.
