Should have ordered the OBD Link MX plus

Or at the least a BT Scan Tool recommended by JSCAN for use with a JL.

The Op, has picked a scan tool used with a JK. He also went with clunky, iffy, Chrysler cables.

What hardware should i be using?

Get one of these dedicated security gateway bypass modules instead of Chrysler cables and get either a VLinker or an OBDLink scan tool. For what you want to do a less expensive VLinker is an aok way to go.

The Security bypass cable is designed to work with the OBD Link MX plus. JSan has a notation on their page that explains it. I tried "Blue Driver" and works for reading along with everything other ODB reader. .. but if you want to make changes, write, or clear codes you will have to go with the OBD MX Plus. I did things like change my high beams to being able to run the same time as my fog lights and a few tiny irritating things I wanted done.

These days, I never ever suggest someone buy clunky old, iffy, very large footprint Chrysler 8+1
cables.

Best /better way to go is with a dedicated security gateway bypass module. Yes, a bit more expensive but a far far better way to go and it is easily resellable when you are done with it.

You do not see dedicated SGW modules mentioned on the JSCAN site, although even the designer of JSCAN in Poland, uses a dedicated SGW bypass module himself.
