I recently upgraded the tires on my Sport (on Moab wheels) to 295/70R17 and got the Smittybilt relo bracket.

After installing it I tighten the lugs but the bump stops compress and compress, it doesn’t feel like it’s really tightening up against the carrier. I’ve attached a picture (yes I see the grommet for the wiring is loose).

Are the stock bump stops simply too long for this setup?

I followed your lead and did a similar setup for my Mopar simulated beadlocks and 315/70/14 Ridge Grapplers.. thanks for the great idea!

I went and bought the supplies and did this tonight. Seems to work well. I went with plastic plugs rather than the stool style cap, but same approach. Thanks fat boy.

Looks great. Tell me more about the “plugs” and where I can purchase. I like the clean look!!!

I'm running the same setup you are but my tires are 12.5 instead of 13.5. These suckers work great...

I recommend a little dab of silicon around the base of the nipple before you install it. One of mine would allow a tiny trickle of water to slip into the Jeep.
Im runni g stock k02s with fuel kicker 5s 17x9 -12. Probably 1 inch - 1.5 inch of gap. Will this work out for me? Im not trying to make something. And im sure my local shop will have them.

The backup sensors still go off so I’m hoping the RC bracket can correct that? Running the Mopar oversized tire carrier so if someone knows, please let me know. Thanks!

What ever you get, you want it adjustable so that you can get your spare nice and tight to the rear gate. If the solution you're considering does not offer that, then you need to consider something else.

Myself, I'm running the Mopar tailgate reinforcement bracket along with the Teraflex adjustable tire carrier with 37" tires and the stock bumper with sensor and have never had a problem with it interfering with the backup sensors. Heck even before that when I was running the Rough Country relocation bracket I didn't have a problem with it interfering with the sensors, though it did rattle like a mofo over every bump or expansion joint on the highway.

In a quick review of the RC relocation bracket, it should work with the Mopar oversized tire carrier I’m running. At least, I think so... knowing my luck, it’ll take me a bunch of tweaking and trips to Lowe’s :crying:.

Definitely haven’t noticed as much rattling (it may be gone altogether too) since extended the bump stops with the pucks. Would highly recommend it.

When I previously ran the R/C relocation bracket I was running proper tailgate bump stops. The rattling I was dealing with was more related to the amount of weight hanging off what was essentially the factory set up, just with a relocation bracket pushing it up 2.5" and out 1-2". When your wheel/tire combo weighs in about 40lbs more than factory, OEM parts are not going to be happy.

I can't say for certain but at worst you will have to trim them down or simply add some PVC pipe in there. It's pretty easy to do :)

I had the same problem, I ended up using a 1.5" to 1.25" flexible PVC coupling. The 1.5" side fits completely over the original bump stop on the tailgait and it is longer than the original to accommodate my tire/wheel setup. The 1.25" side fits well against my tire. I thought it would be a little long but it compressed well when I tightened the tire on so no cutting needed. Cost me 12 dollars from ACE hardware and about 30 minutes of time from purchasing to installing. You can get a coupling that is just 1/5" on both side but I thought the one that went down to 1.25" appeared stronger. See pictures below:

I had a big 4"gap on my spare with -38mm offset and got some 1" pvc and 1 1/4" rubber leg tips and covered the pvc with wire loom. Works like a charm!

Here’s what I did for tailgate bump stop. Went to Menards and got 2” I.d. rubber plumbing connector. Put it on and zip tied it. Works great.

Using these based off your recommendation. I trimmed mine down a tad and also trimmed the insert part to get them on easier!
Did you paint that silver and is it metal I'm looking for a metal one ?

Yes I have back up sensors in my bumper and I've never had an issue with the spare tripping the warning sensor.

Even back when I was running the Rough Country relocation bracket with the factory tire carrier and a 37" tire hanging off the back. Note though that my rims are Fuel Trophy that are 17x8.5 with -6 offset (or 4.5" of backspacing).
Im about ready to put a 37" on my ready lift spare tire bracket. Any issues without reinforcing the tail gate?
