Hard top wind noise

I figure I would go guy a MB E350 or something if i wanted a whisper quiet cabin.

The issue I have is not that it has wind noise, but it has way more wind noise than the outgoing platform. I'm surprised this wasn't tested more. I was just expecting a way better vehicle all around. Not just more tech. If its just a few then fine make an adjustment and be done. It seems to be something deeper than that. If adding headliners fixed it completely then it would be no big deal. "Its just a Jeep thing" when they cost $30K not when they are north of $50K.

Well, @JeepCares has responded multiple times to this thread and asked everyone who thinks they have a problem to follow up directly. Also, you have a warranty, so head on down and demand they get down to the root of the problem. I feel everyone's pain who is dealing with this problem. I'm sure if it does turn out to be an engineering problem, we'll hopefully see a fix if everyone goes on record. My perspective was coming from, "Hmmmm pretty thin fiberglass here between me and the road and they made it pretty simple to, "Go Naked", imma' just enjoy this Jeep for what she built for!" If a few minor adjustments don't get me where I feel she needs to be, off to the dealer I go. I actually purchased my Rubicon from a dealer that was further away from where I bought our Renegade because the guys at the first place seem to love everything stock and plain and had no experience with customs. I'm pretty confident these new guys can sort anything out.

I just want to add that many of you here have much more of experience with the Jeep platform then me. I have to step aside as far as those comparisons go. I bought mine to head up into the mountains as my wife and I travel to obstacle course races year-round, so my expectations are being exceeded so far.

Well I have had 3 JK's and a TJ and I was very disappointed with the ONE JL Rubicon that I test drove. I actually liked everything about it except the wind noise. I think it a great vehicle, but since I want to use it for long distance trips wind noise like I experienced in my test drive was not acceptable. I would rather drive my 2 door JK that is way quieter, but didn't drive as nice than spend $50K with this one problem. I bet its a simple fix. Or at least I hope it is. I will drive at least two more to see if there is any change between the two or if it was just the crazy wind we had that day or if headliners make a difference.

You guys act like every Jeep coming off the assembly line is a piece of crap. OK, there are a few people with wind noise, a couple with bad welds, Uconnect problems are rare too. Just because a few are having problems DOES NOT mean that we ALL are having problems. I've had mine two weeks and a day now. Guess what? No wind noise and or air leaks! My welds look good. Uconnnect? Working like a champ. No one here disputes the problems people are having, EVERY car manufacturer has problems of some sort. You're scared to buy one? Then don't. If you made decisions based on everyone's fears or complaints, then what things of value do you own? Remember Firestone tires? Guess what, they're still on the road today. Mercedes are famous for electrical gremlins. I see them on the road too. The point I'm trying to make is that not every Jeep is perfect, yeah, we get that. I'm willing to bet that every vehicle you've owned has had many tsb's for things that aren't perfect. But you're still driving it!

Does having headliners fix most of the problem?? I would be adding headliner and sound deadener throughout the top and floor anyway.

Well I don't think its whining when something is worse than the outgoing platform. And wind noise is a major issue. Its not like I can't get my iPhone to connect. Wind noise ruins the driving experience. If its something I can fix on my own I have no problem doing it because I made my JK almost as quiet as my Grand Cherokee.

Yea, I think some people just are scared when they read a few bad anecdotes. You can't really blame them, but it's completely illogical to take a smattering of anecdotes and hold them up as objective truth. I mean, somebody posted on the last page that they had to shout with their spouse just to be heard at highway speeds. That's their anecdote. But mine is the total opposite: 70mph on the highway, my wife and I were speaking at normal volume back and forth, no issues. So which of us are "correct"? What is the truth? Am I lying - is he lying? Why would either of us lie about something like that?

So, yea... which person are you going to believe? Are you going to take one person's story of missing paint/rusty welds as the Gospel truth (haven't found any spots on mine yet) and amplify those few stories by posting about them repeatedly?

It's just the nature of the internet or any public forum, really. You just need to be aware of human tendency and arm yourself with that knowledge when you're shopping for a new car, especially if you're going to visit an internet forum and read about personal experiences.

I have four solutions to the hardtop wind noise.
1. Purchase the sound prof panels
2. Buy a Soft top
3. Buy the new one touch Hard top 4. Go buy another vehicle
Personally I'm ordering with dual tops and sound prof panels.
For the folks saying their not spending 50K on a Jeep with all that wind noise, don't. It's your money do what you want. But don't make it sound like every one buying a new JL is crazy because of the wind noise. As I've stated in previous post , the JL I drove didn't have any apparent wind noise.

Picking up mine today, with headliners from the factory, so I will keep you posted

To me, if there is loud excessive wind noise (moreso than the JK) then it's an issue.

If I need to speak a lot louder (with the hard top on) to talk to someone in the cabin while I'm on the highway, it's not going to work for me.

That being said...and this ties into your post...
My wife has a '16 JKU Sahara. After reading this thread I asked her if she thought her Jeep had a lot of wind-noise while on the highway. She said, "Yes, I can barely hear the kids when they ask me something." Now...I've driven in that Jeep countless times...on the highway...and never thought the wind-noise was excessive or intrusive to the experience. My wife had never complained about it before (aside from when she was using the BlueTooth phone in her '12 Sahara)...but when asked, she said that she hates the wind noise.

Maybe it's not just different for each Jeep but also different for each person and their expectations.
