Differential Covers and skid plates

do cast iron covers really hold in a lot of heat? Someone mentioned on a youtube video and has me concerned because I might start pulling a small camper long distances.

I didn't like the edges of the Rancho and neither Rancho or Dana could tell me if they fit together, so I ordered the MetalCloaks.

I like the idea of the glide plates. I'm curious how they look from far away. I don't want a bunch of "extra stuff" under the jeep. I guess I could always paint them black.

Do you have to take that off to change the diff fluid?

No, Rancho provides a hole in the bottom to drain oil. Actually that’s one of the big benefits to these guide plates is it protects the drain plug under the differential. There was a poster who was rock crawling and scraping rocks actually loosened the drain plug and started to leak.

Can anybody confirm that the Rancho skids fit on the Dana covers? I wanted the MC, and much less expensive, but just cant get over the goofy fill hole

They do fit with a little grinding on the front or the rear, I can't remember which one I had to grind on. I think it was the front.

Also, because the Dana cover flanges are thicker than the stock ones, it throws the u-bolt alignment off slightly. The bolt had to be bent in creative ways to get it to bolt up.

Here is an interesting front differential skid I came across, specs show it to be made of one-third inch thick lightweight steel. Appears to be Israeli made and is $166 including shipping to the United States.

Painted just the outside. Be sure to clean inside and out with your favorite engine cleaner though. I just used a rattle can of some high temp engine paint. Reused the rubber gasket (rubicon).
