Others have said it better than I can, but the damage that is being inflicted can’t easily be undone. However, If it all falls out the way you said I will eat my words. In the short term I expect slight increases in fuel prices, but in the longer term I expect a steady decline (in inflation-adjusted dollars) as domestic production is increased.
Pipeline construction should also help reduce transport costs.
Tariffs increase prices, so if they remain in place in perpetuity they’ll keep prices artificially high —- but I doubt they’ll remain even a year, as the US is essential to the Canadien and Mexican economies. I believe the tariffs are a negotiating tactic, and as soon as the objective is achieved the tariffs will be mitigated or eliminated. .
Of course, I don’t have a crustal ball. I guess we’ll see soon enough.
But whatever else happens, I don’t think we’ll be seeing big price increases on the electric jeeps nobody wants to buy at lower prices.
