Just discovered dreaded hinge bubbles. Just my luck out of warranty. Looking for bodyshop recommendations in the Colorado Springs area. Thanks

Oh man. Going through the same thing. Can’t find anyone that’s got experience with repairing this stuff without Jeep’s warranty just authorizing a full replacement of the affected panel.

I've had good luck with Winslow BMW's paint shop for work they've done on a couple other vehicles. I haven't had them do any work on a Wrangler though.

Will changing the hinge to a different metal stop the problem?

You do know it’s covered under the 5yr 60,000 mile warranty correct? I just recently found that out. Not sure what your yr/miles are but just a FYI.

A zinc shim is added along with repainting. I’ve attached the TSB addressing the issue.
I was just under the wire on getting my 2018 repaired under warranty this past July. Don’t know how long it will last. Good luck!

I thought they have been adding those shims prior to 2022?

Do you think using aftermarket hinges of a different metal along with zinc shim would be beneficial? Which metal?

I don’t really know, but the TSB makes it sound like the shim is added to 2018-2023 JLs and 2020-2023 JTs specifically to address the corrosion. It also talks about there being a slight gap visible between hinge and door when the shim is installed.

The only real experience I have with joining dis-similar metals to avoid the corrosion problem is while I was in the USAF. We had to be sure we added a cadmium washer between where the copper wires from the generators on the engines joined the aluminum wires running through the wings. It may be that the shim material depends on what the two metals are that you are trying to keep separate.

The reason for sandwiching the zinc shim in there is because it is anodic to the aluminum and will corrode before the aluminum, thus providing protection.
