Why oh why do the windshield crack so easily from rocks, jumping up and hitting??? Has anyone had any good success with an alternative to Safelite?
wrangler unlmtd, so I don’t think that it needs the extra “calibration”
I already paid $600 twice
The insurance actually counts against us, even though we have comprehensive. Looking for a better alternative.. TIA

I don't replace unless in my line of sight. Reason it cracks it is nearly vertical angle so takes almost full impact of rocks.

I don't know what you mean insurance counts against you? I have Geico and 50 or 100 dollar deductible they have never went up on my insurance it is almost always around the same every 6 months.

Maybe time for new insurance if they punish you? If that is what you mean.

I've never had a problem with getting a windshield replaced from Progressive with my glass coverage, but for whatever reason this time, they want pictures, a statement from a third party, a stool sample, etc. These things aren't even expensive or hard to replace, but now I have to jump through a dozen hoops.

Did you pee in a cup, too?

I just got mine replaced through Progressive/safelite. It was all done online. I went to Safelite, filled in my insurance info, and two days later they were at my driveway doing the replacement. Not sure why they are giving you a hard time.

Yeah, that's usually been my experience too. In fact, it's been a couple years since I've replaced a windshield. I used to do it almost every single year. I don't know what their problem is this time.

Do what I did replaced my windshield regular mopar branded glass, not Gorilla Glass, right after getting the replacement windshield book it in at an auto detailer that does clear film protective wraps with the self healing film layer. I had mine done a year ago gone through a winter of sand/salted roads and country roads and had stones pelting on the windshield without any damage and none of this penetrating through the protective film layer. The film layer to boot is sacrificial layer that can be reapplied once it’s been a few years of taken a beating but the windshield stays mint. The only downside if it’s a negative is that you shouldn’t use a scraper for the windshield in the winter time. Otherwise, it’s all pluses. It’s the best method of protecting our windshields.

It must be state by state rules on the insurance. Progressive here in Texas holds a glass claim against you.

It definitely saves the day. I’m slightly annoyed by the wear I am starting to see from the wipers but small price to pay.

I installed racing optics film right after I had the gorilla glass replaced. The Jeep only had about 200 miles on it when the windshield was cracked by a small rock. Since the film was installed, no cracks or chips and the windshield has taken some pretty good hits.

Somehow I still have my original windshield on a 2019 w 50k miles. It's had several rock hits, but I keep a couple permatex windshield repair kits on hand. I've been lucky enough to have been able to repair the small cracks before they had a chance to spread. The kits used to be much cheaper, around 12 bucks for 2. I think that is the price for just one now. If you take your time to follow the instructions and tap the repair spot during the first stage, it seals and hides it really well like the professional repair jobs. I've probably been able to prevent 4 windshield replacements by now at a cost of under 50 bucks.

I had my replaced at Safelite…and had them get an OEM one with GEICO. Cost me nothing, but maybe it a Massachusetts thing.

This is interesting...
