Just learning about winch plates. I’ve picked up on they need to be strong enough for the application and then also about fitment concerns.

I’m sure most are not an issue in strength. I intend on getting the Rubicon steel bumper, a Warn 10S, and would definitely be interested in not having to or minimizing grinding and cutting to fit. I’d also like to be able to use D rings at the bottom like it seems some have. I assume they are added. This Maximus 3 seems like a good choice. Any others? Anything else winch plate-wise to consider? Thanks
Warn makes some D-ring mounts, but I've read that they require more cutting than the Maximus-3 'tow loops'. Maximus-3 also makes 'D-Ring' mounts that are further towards the center, but I haven't seen too much info on those.

I went with the Maximus-3 plate & tow loops, mostly because I liked the options they offered and the plate's 12,000 pound rating. Most other winch plates I found were rated at 10,000 pounds. It's a little overkill for my winch (Warn 10S), but at least I know it won't be an issue.

There is a Mopar plate that doesn’t move the Rubicon steel bumper out. It is the most pricey option as you also have to purchase a fairlead adapter plate (either offset or centered). I have the plate in hand and waiting for the winch to arrive later this week. The Mopar plate also includes new 5 mph bumper pads to provide some protection to the hawse that is now forward of the bumper. There are lower cost options but I liked the Mopar solution. As compared to the Warn plate (my 2nd choice) the Mopar plate also will require a new license plate adapter if your state requires one. I went with the Maximus license plate mount.

Will it work with any winch and what is it rated for?

The plate has two sets of mounting holes in the bottom, both std 10x4.5 in. One set is centered and one has an approx. 1.5 in. offset. That is why Mopar sells the accompanying centered or offset fairlead adapter plate. The mounting hole dims are std. The Mopar “factory” winch is the Warn Zeon 8S - which has the same mounting hole dims. Whether “any” winch will fit is a tough call - it would best to compare the dims of the winch you are interested in against the Warn Zeon. As others have mentioned, some winches make for a very tight fit and complicate assembly hardware access and rub against the grille.

I haven’t found an actual rating anywhere, however, I would offer it appears very solid - the base plate is formed from 1/4 in. steel like the Warn plate and others. All quality hardware, IMO. I plan to mount a 10k lb winch on my vehicle. The finish is factory OEM-grade, IMO.

I think it’s a fairly complete kit. The kit includes, as mentioned above, the mods for the 5 mph bumper considerations and also includes paint protection film and foam tape to protect the grille from a winch or wiring that could rub against the grille face. You also don’t have to modify the skid plate holes as some have reported due to the bumper moving forward.

Downside, IMO, is the higher price incl the need to buy the fairlead adapter plate as well as need to address license plate mounting separately. Hope this helps.

The part #, BTW, is 8221 5182 AC.

Also researching winch plates.... I'm surprised how they're all a little different and range from 199$ to almost 500$ for the mopar with the fairlead adapter.

Interesting fact... the maximus 3 winch plate only ways 24 pounds per their website. The ship weight of the warn plate is 41 pounds per quadratec.

The front of the warn plate looks more "reinforced" since the plate comes up vertically against the fair lead adapter. I like that. However, the maximus 3 appears plenty strong based on reviews. I can't justify the Mopar plate though. I'd rather spend that extra money on the winch.

The Warn plate is "beefy" indeed and I bought one from a member here, but it was missing the spacer plates. I contacted Warn and although I had to wait for the next run to be manufactured and they had no obligation to do so, they sent me a set of plates free. They stand behind their products and if/when my 12K Smittybilt gives it up, I will definitely buy Warn.
