I have a 2021 JL Unlimited 3.6 eTorque.
Replaced ALL belt tensioners and pulleys as thinking this was the issue why the serpentine belt got shredded. Why does the belt move off the pulley? I notice it’s sitting off the lip of the crank. Always wanted a Jeep and here I am. Haven’t even had this vehicle for a full month? 🍋

I have never seen a pulley move like that on an engine. So no help but giving the post a bump.

Thanks for replying. I’m hoping to get input on this issue. Planning on taking it to a dealership and have them check everything out, plus the everything that has to do with “eTorque” before any actual work. I did have a warning pop up a couple times stating “Start/Stop unavailable”. Ugh!! I’m afraid!!! 🥹
I’ve always wanted to get a Jeep and here I am having issues right at the start!

Ugh!! It’s a brand new tensioner. All new belt tensioners and pulley. If it’s toast I’m hoping Mopar will replace it. 🙏🏼. What’s making this happen?

Are you sure the harmonic balancer isn’t falling apart?

i've never seen a tensioner setup move like that after start. Other than little movements to hold tension, that drop of inches was what???

Could be the wrong tensioner or an improper installation. And, though it’s not common, a small percentage of parts are bad when brand new.

Is it just the camera distortion, or is that tensioner pulley in the middle of the screen way out of alignment? Most belt run-off issues are a pulley alignment problem.

All the pulleys should be in the same plane. All the pulleys should have no rocking play in their bearings. A slight angle on a pulley will drive the belt off. One of the pulley mounts or axles is out of plane or squareness.

Only time I’ve seen a tensioner yank around like that was on a ~2010 ford mustang with an AC compressor that was failing. Took so much power to turn it that a loop was getting thrown from a pulley, tensioner moved in following the reduced path. Catastrophic seize came a few minutes and run attempts later. Something is not right in your belt path. Good luck

There is something drastically wrong with the tensioner; it should not move like that at all. Or as JL 2D said, belt routing is wrong.

Yall, the tensioner is going to move as the belt is yanked over the edge of the crankshaft pulley. This needs more info to answer.

It's hard to tell the full details, but it appears the tensioner is not positioned correct, it's putting a strain on a bearing and when it finally drops down, it appears the tensioner shifts slightly

That's what I think I see, too. The belt isn't hanging off the idler even when it is jumped off the crank pulley. I'd expect the belt to be hanging off the idler pully, too, especially with them being so close together at that point.

As someone pointed out earlier, If the AC has been over-serviced or if the compressor is going T.U., it might do this.

Has anyone "added freon" to your AC system recently?
