Hi all, I need your advice on buying wheels and tires. I'm having trouble finding Rubicon take offs near me, and there are lots on Ebay, but I'm hesitant to buy something I can't see first. Thoughts and suggestions? I'm also considering W/T packages on Extreme Terrain. TYIA

If you have some time, watch FB marketplace. You could also call local lift shops and tell them you'd be interested in their next set of takeoffs.

These always come up from time-to-time. Be patient and some will become available near you, even if you need to drive a bit. This way you can see them first hand. You can also put a WANTED AD on the forum and in your local Craigslist.

My nephew bought a set of Chevy Trail Boss wheels off eBay for his Yukon. The transaction was smooth, even though they couldn't see them in person because the seller had plenty of pictures. They had them freighted to the family business so the cost wasn't outrageous, but probably more expensive in the long run had he waited for a set to pop up locally.

If its coming from another JL you will be ok as far as tire age but when buying used tires it's a good idea to have them provide a picture of the tire mfg date. Once you get the date keep in mind that most auto manufacturers recommend replacing tires over six years old regardless of tread depth.

Dare I say it, another option is to check your local Jeep dealerships. When I was at mine today, they had 8 complete sets of takeoffs with brand new tires. These were from new Jeeps, whose owners immediately replaced the wheels/tires with aftermarket stuff, and ranged from $400 to $850, depending on wheel/tire combos. Definitely worth checking out.

This and watch here on the Forum. There will be a set coming up within driving distance if you’re patient. Shipping costs for mounted wheels/tires will be $$$-money better spend on the items themselves.

Agreed with everyone here. Find your local Jeep club on FB, see if they have a BST sub-group, and/or see if there are a few local offroad/Jeep shops that the club recommends. These are likely to be trustworthy shops who likely do quite a good volume of factory take-offs, and will likely sell them to you (and can probably even mount them) at a good price to get them out of the shop.

Takes off new parts used to be far more common, Now with new prices higher than ever and everyone's free cash evaporating, takes are a lot less common.

If the eBay seller has a 99-100% feedback, then I would not have an issue with buying there. Shipping is probably going to cost quite a bit though.

Make sure that it has the TPMS sensors in it that match your Jeep, that the date and zoom in on the pictures to make sure the tires are as new as they say. Date codes within a couple of years should be okay, especially if you drive a lot.

AND make sure that you are getting 5, not 4, as I often see. For some reason, people will buy 4 nice new wheels and tires, then leave the stock spare on.

All good advice here. I actually got my tires on Craigslist, and met a cool, new local Jeep friend in the process. ?
