Wheel Torque Specifications JL/JLU

Use the recommended torque of 130 ft lbs, unless the wheel manufacturer specifies something LESS. I've never seen this, but hypothetically it could happen. You don't want to use MORE torque than specified by Jeep or you will risk snapping the wheel studs.

I use spline lug nuts and they've been just fine at 130 ft lbs.

Fair enough, and you’re probably right…..I haven’t heard of a wheel manufacturer (although is possible) asking for different specs, but have seen mixed opinions on lug manufacturer have a different spec.

Gorilla or most spline lug nuts for 14mm seems to show 85-95ft/lb of torque, which is obviously lower than Jeeps factory recommendation. Although these being aftermarket, thought there might be a different requirement.

Appreciate the response ?? , I’ll take your word for it especially since you also use the spline lugs.

Do you use gorillas or a different brand if I may ask?

Here's my thread from a while back regarding crap spline lugnuts vs. decent spline lugnuts, vs. even better full 6pt lugnuts. As long as the seating area of the lugnuts is decent you should be fine at the factory 130 ft lb spec.

I use Gorilla and so far so good.

There is a small gorilla lug nut and a larger one (similar to the OEM size), if you can use the larger ones on your wheels if they're aftermarket that would be a good plan. Gorilla does make quality sets.

Those are great…and if using these I wouldn’t even have asked about a possible different torque spec. These are larger and very similar to the factory acorn lugs.

But I’ve had to purchase the actual skinnier spline lugs in order to fit the lug holes on my aftermarket rims. (Fuel coverts)

This is what had me questioning a possible different torque recommendation.

Yea I saw your thread brother….I read it and looked into your recommendations …unfortunately these wheel lug holes are smaller than factory wheels, so the ones you guys went with wasn’t suitable for mine.

If you can’t handle 130 ft. lb. lug nuts perhaps you’d be better off with a Prius.

I'd go with the spec of 130, not some installer, you might ask why he's not recommending what the factory spec requires.

I think they're Gorilla, but not sure. My son used to work at Discount Tire and got them from there.

My F-150 is 148 ft/lbs. 130 for the JLUR with stock wheels. Looking to get the gorilla black acorn lug nuts, but don't want the locking ones. Nobody sells a set of 23 without the 5 locking ones. Guess I will have to order a set and then order 5 more at Quadratec, plus a couple of spares.
