Easy to do and way cheaper than finding out you were wrong later.

My understanding is that the pan contains the fillter.

Could have smashed filter as well.

That's not a crossmember, the crossmember is the giant girder to your left. This is just a skid, and a bad one at that. Just replace it with a good aftermarket one. I would also not show your vehicle in its current state to any dealer.
