Lol, mines the opposite. It’s rarely under 200 while off roading.
Even during colder ambient temperatures? Say 45f and below

for me, on and off road, the trans temp slowly increases until it’s around 200 and starts to hover around 197-201 and never goes up, at least during the times I have looked at the gauge.

Yeah mine does this on road. Off road though it likes to run warm for some reason. Doesn’t seem to cause any issues though. My last trail run I used manual shifting and it helped. The outside temps were under 32 degrees while snow wheeling up in the mountains.

That’s what I’m going with. I haven’t seen 250….saw 242 once though, but I was rocking out of a hole.

Mine hits 237 in 2H just pulling my jetski trailer. Only changes I've made are 35s, still 4.10 gears.
My transmission temperature hovered around 210ish when I was towing a 1,300 lb. trailer (loaded weight) in the warmth of a Virginia June day. The gauge would back off from that number a bit when the road ahead was clear, but not by much. That's the highest I've seen, and it was only evident during that towing event.

It shouldn’t cause issues at all as far as I am aware. I am not sure specifically for the zf8 but automatic transmissions in general have an operating range around 175-225f

i would worry if you see above 220 often, otherwise I think it’s fine

not sure what kind of temps some people are worrying about; if they don't get to at least 212º occasionally, they don't even boil off the water that condenses out of the air as it heat cycles, and that water causes problems over time.

the fan doesn't even come up to begin cooling things until it's 230º+; don't worry about it while it's in the middle of the gauge range around 220, let it do its thing.

Yes, I've learned to live with this understanding. It's true, the fan does not kick on until its HTH.

My would hit about 225 on a 100 degree day normal stop and go driving
So I had an idea
Rap the exhaust where it passes under the trans pan
First I just did a single rap with a loosely weave put did not see much of a change in exhaust temperature. About 400 to 450 degrees
Then I raped it over what I just put on with a foil backed tighter weave rap
Now the bare pipe is 400 / 450 put the rap is about 200 degrees
Now the trans hovers about 200 degrees on a 100 degree day. Even with my skid plate back on
Today outside temperature hit about 107 and still I am at 203 trans temp
I am still testing put looks promising
The only problem I have had was the foil backing on the second rap is starting to come off
I think I am going to remove the foil backed rap and re-rap with the foil down and see how that works
And yes. It ran 225 degrees with the factory pan and the aluminum pan

That's a good idea. I think I'm gonna do the same thing. We're is your transmission temp gauge on your jeep? I'm not seeing one on mine.

Today, lightly offroading just going real slow over some technical stuff. Trans temp was 235. I stopped until the temp went way back down. I noticed 235 really isn't just more than half way on the meter, in off-road pages. 235 seems nuts, Thoughts?
Do you have a Tazer? When I use cool down mode and scroll the guages it shows trans temp at 245. Turn off cool down mode and trans temp shows 190-195. Not sure if it could be related using 4wd or not, but worth a look.

Yes I have a tazer put I not sure what this part means

Cooldown Mode: Press ▷ + CRUISE CANCEL to
turn the engine fans on High. Press again to turn them off.
NOTE: When the engine is off, the fans will turn off
automatically if the battery drops to 11V.

NOTE: The transmission temperature will read as 229F
while this mode is being used with the engine running.

NOTE: Only works with the engine OFF on manual Jeeps

Is it reading the temp or is the 229F a set number wile in cool down mode

Just hauled my tractor from Maine to Connecticut in my 23 JLU with stock 3.45 gearing. Tractor and trailer combined is 2,100lbs. Trans temps varied between 215-235°F at 65-70 mph.
