I saw this yesterday. I passed on EJS this year because of similar issues and a feeling that it’s not a good time to go.

Replaced a camshaft late last year because of the same problem as Brad, phaser a few weeks ago, and had weird sounds coming from the transmission that another service seems to have fixed.

I’m slowly losing confidence in my Jeep’s ability to get me somewhere and back. A year or two ago that wouldn’t have been the case. Odometer just turned 70k on a 2019.

Something that I've been thinking of/waiting for:

Let's say my 3.6 goes out after warranty. What's the best solution for my desired long-term ownership. I've spent some money on the upgrades to the jeep that I want, what's the best course of action when it comes to engine replacement. Yes...obviously a hemi, but what I'm looking for is the best value based on performance and adaptability.

Please keep in mind:
2-door
Manual trans - upgraded clutch.

LS Swap?
5.7 Hemi?
Another 3.6?

For those that might be thinking about tweaking the viscosity of their oil (as mentioned in the video):
The newest video from EE on the GM engine recall has good info on oil viscosities too. Worth a watch as well.

I guess I should count myself (for now) lucky as I got my 2019 JLUR 3.6L with 22,000 miles on it and now have 125,000 miles on it and actually plan to finally get off my butt and change the spark plugs tomorrow. I had made a short video asking to get feedback if I have a tick or not from my engine:

It's difficult for me to hear in a video sometimes so take this for what it's worth; the driver side sounded like it had a tick. Passenger side seemed quiet.

Skeptical this is about oil. To me, this is a design and or manufacturing problem. Poor quality of the metal, no roller on the lifters. What is this an engine made in 1965?

I'm not so sure a hemi swap would be a remedy, same engineers, manufacturer, ticks.

Here is what I did that I hope will avoid the cam / rocker issue.
1. Installed the RPM Extreme JL fan controller. This has lowered my coolant and most important my oil temps by 25 to 30 degrees.
2. From the very start I ran Valvoline 5w30 oil and now running Valvoline European 5w40 oil. This is what most European manufacturer use including the Maserati 3.0 v6 gas which is basictly the same as the jeep 3.6. I have not been able to find any cam issues with the Maserati 3.0 v6 gas.
Will this help with the cam issue. I hope so. To me it is common sense.
I now have 30k on my 2020 Willys 3.6. Here is a picture of my magnetic drain plug from my last oil change. No metal here.

Nope! I mixed up the title with an earlier video of his:

One of the tings he stated.
With modern engines. Engine wear in not a limiting factor.
Manufacturers have learned how to make the internals of an engine last.
Chrysler/Jeep has failed on this part.

To summarize for those that haven't watched: other than very specific scenarios, you're a fucking idiot if you use a viscosity other than what was recommended by the manufacturer.
