Did some work this weekend and wanted to inform anyone in need of some details. This weekend I finished my install with @Synergymfg drag link and tie rods. Did an at home alignment and played with some toe. From factory 2 parts at 0 toe no issues. After install the front end stiffened up noticeably. Started with +1/8 and went for a ride at 45 hit a dip and the thing felt like I was riding a death bull. Came home and went assuming 0 +- and it was a bit better. Returned and set for 1/8 in and solved the issue no stabilizer. Incase anyone was wondering on the mysterious toe in question you would love a toe in vs out (um yeah hope that didn't offend the moderators). Any questions ask away

Took advantage of the weather and finished the Synergy Drag link and Tie Rod b 4 the rain. Dialed the wheel and set toe.

How are you measuring the toe?

The only methods I (sort of) know are used on my old Willys and involves chalk lines on tires and measuring devices.

We're lucky with the JL. You can clamp a 2-3 ft long piece of angle aluminum extrusion (make sure it's straight) on the bottom portion of the brake rotor on each side and measure behind and in front of the rotor with a tape measure. With a straight axle, suspension droop doesn't matter.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I never see anybody refer to the distance from the axis in terms of a measurement.
So what reference point do you go off of?
If you have a 1 foot long beam clamped to the rotor doesn’t that 1/8” mean a much smaller angle of toe than if the beam was shorter?

I always go with tire size. So a 40 is 20 front 20 rear.

A man that knows his trig.

Here you go. Right from my FCA Tech Authority service manual.

Jeep Wrangler JL Toe in oh' Toe out Toe spec

For a 36" clamped on arm/beam/scribed tire diameter 0.20 degrees is 0.122" or about one RCH unit less than 1/8". The tolerance of +/- 0.15 degrees = +/- 0.092" or +/- 3/32".

So, with a 36" tire diameter, scribed all the way around or a 36" straight edge clamped on the hub/rotor, measuring front and rear, OEM specs translate to a range from 1/32" to 7/32" toe-in.

?. My 15yo Daughter literally did the math while I was doing the work exactly as described and we were .122. Trig is a wonderful thing!

I put the front axle on jackstands (or just lift the axle and leave the floor jack supporting the middle of the axle), use a 3/8” long self tapping screw and screw it into a sipe on each tire, measure the distance from the screw heads when they are pointing directly forward than rotate the tires until the screws are pointing towards the rear of the Jeep, take another measurement snd compare.
Adjust as required.
I’ve been doing it that way for almost 3 decades.

My pops slides quarters in the sipes and uses George's forehead to measure. Great idea
