Hello!

I went to get my Mastercraft Courser MXT 37x12.5x18 (Mud Terrain) tires balanced on my 2021 JLU with a Metal Cloak lift. The tech pointed out that the tires are badly cupped! The tires and suspension have 24,000 miles on them. The entire Jeep has 27,000. The place that originally installed the tires said to keep them at 28 psi unless going off road, and I have done that. These tires are so bad now (the noise, some vibration) that they need to be replaced. I am hesitant until I know why these tires cupped so bad so fast.

I would GREATLY appreciate you help. The shocks are not leaking and the suspension is still in great shape, but I will say the Metal Cloak 2.5" lift suspension s pretty soft over all from day one. Not sure if that makes a difference. I am going to go with a different tires, but want to make sure this will not just eat those up as fast.

THANKS!!!

Cut and pasted possible reasons:
  • Suspension issues or misaligned wheels
  • Unbalanced tires or damaged wheels
  • Low-quality and cheap tires
  • Worn or damaged suspension components
  • Poor alignment

Happen to be running higher backspace/lower offset wheels? If so, my money is on balljoints.
No nothing like that, the backspace is not that different than stock..... Ball joints are tight and the suspension is silent. It is a pretty standard configuration for any JLU with 37's and a 2.5" lift. i avoided anything to extreme as I was worried about bearings.

Not “that” different + 37’s could be enough. The stock ball joints are shit and they fail in a way that traditional tests don’t diagnose. I chased random DW and cupped tires for some time before taking a leap and replacing the ball joints. In my case on 33’s with only slightly reduced wheel offset and <40k miles. Just food for thought.

several years ago I looked at getting a set of mastercraft Courser mxt's and the tire shop that sold them told me that they were notorious for cupping.

Haven't heard how many rotations were performed? Should rotate every 6k... Also usually X pattern.

I personally could never wait 6000 miles. I have always done the a 5 tire rotation every 3-4000 miles. that schedule has served me well on my last 5 jeeps.

I have the full MetalCloak 2.5" GameChanger Suspension. I thought they replaced the stock ball joints with their Duroflex™ Joints

I rotate every 7500, but have always used that interval. i have to wonder if it is these tires. They also suffer from "radial draw".

It quite possibly could just be the tires. MTs from a budget brand its not like thats out of the question.

I am leaning toward a se t of Nitto Recon Grappler A/T - they are $480.00 each for 37x12.5.18.

I mean no reason to change the tires before they are done, a bit of cupping isnt the end of the world, just gonna be a little noisy. Did they do an alignment as well?

You got a picture? Curious to see what they actually look like, might change some of the suggestions here if folks can see the actual cupping and how it's presenting.

They are outrageously loud and the cupping is bad enough where you can feel it through the body. I am used to loud after 10 Jeeps and Large trucks, but this beats them all by far. They have to go.

For my education, "cupping" means the center is worn out before the edges? If yes, wouldn't that happen because of over inflation?
