I have the 20 Sport 2.0 JLU. It's just about time to change my oil. I've been running full synthetic. I saw one the other day at Walmart, (Castrol edge 5w-30) that claims is good for 20k miles!! They also had the oil filter too, (Fram xg10060), which also says it's good for 20k miles.
Does anybody trust this?
I almost miss the old conventional oil days of changing the oil and rotating the tires every 3k miles.

I use oil and fram ultra for 10k miles, but not on a DI turbo. I do 5K OCI on both my DI turbo’s, filter I use for 2 OCI.
My 10K OCI is on a 3.6 pentastar.

Idk, if you go that long regardless of what the oil brand tells you, jeep might say that if you run into any issues you didn’t do the oil charge at the required mileage, I personally don’t trust that all label propaganda bs just to make a product sound more enticing vs another, I’m sure it’s been tested etc but under perfect conditions it can probably perform up to that 20 K miles, ultimately are you willing to take that risk? Me I’m changing my oil every 7 / 7,500 miles or time whichever comes first even know it’s rated for up to 10 K I just know how I drive and I rather have good lubricants in my engine.

It's all wishful thinking and I'll tell you why.

MOISTURE. Water turns motor oil acidic.

If you're putting in excess of 20,000 miles on your vehicle in a year, most any high quality synthetic could be extended out that long. That's a lot of freeway miles, high speed, constant and consistent heat. Lots of "on" time. Keeping that oil free from moisture. At that point you're mostly fighting shear, degradation of viscosity -- the additives in the oil literally wearing out. "Mechanical breakdown" of the oil.

You put 5k miles on in a year? 10k? Lots of shorter trips. That's a lot of "off" time. Lots of time for condensation to build up inside your engine as it cools down, especially during the colder months. This is degradation due to chemical reactions, more than the oil just being worn out from being scraped off cylinder walls, and crushed in bearing journals as simplistic as that sounds.

20,000 miles, or one year. Whichever comes first. Because the oil is being degraded even when your engine is off, if not more so.

Look up the oil change interval for a semi truck, 10k, 25k, 40k miles. On dino-juice Rotella or Chevron Delo. Yes their oil capacity is measured in gallons, but they also put down more miles than any of us will in our cars, the moisture build-up isn't so much an issue. Mechanical wear of the oil is fought by having five gallons do the job of five quarts in a smaller engine.

After seeing what happens to the lubricity of even the BEST oil, synthetic or otherwise, once it's diluted by only 5% with gasoline, there's no way I'd go over 5k miles.

A bigger issue indeed in anything direct injected.

I always go 5K on my vehicles. Will they go more? Yes...
Call me weird, but I actually enjoy doing my own oil changes. Always have.
And on these modern engines I always fill with synthetic. My 2 cents.
For the cost of an oil change, especially with the 2.0 and it's 5w-30 and spin-on filter, it's cheap insurance.

I also don't believe you'll find an API SP or SN-Plus rated 5W-30 that isn't synthetic, but I could be wrong. Again, with the constant monthly oil change specials on 5qt jugs of synthetic at O'NAPAzone, no need to even go with mineral oil.

EDIT: I lied, Valvoline white jug "Daily Protection" 5w-30 is SP rated.

As much as we drive the hell out of it, I prefer a 5k interval but sometimes it’s up around 7k. My only reasoning is a couple of others’ Blackstone labs on 2.0’s and using the “20k” oil less than half it’s advertised capability under ideal conditions. I assume the worst on conditions so between those two points of somewhat anecdotal evidence, it seems a reasonable and conservative oil change interval. I use the premium Fram as well. I appreciate the media and the grip on the body of the filter.

Don’t skimp on oil for a turbo engine.

SAME! It’s something about seeing the dirty/used oil come out, and putting the clean oil in yourself!

Also it’s a good time to inspect underneath the Jeep while you’re down there. For me, it’s a lot like washing/waxing the Jeep. It’s pure enjoyment when you know your oil change is done right, by you.

Also, it’s stupid easy to replace the oil filter since it drops in from the top. ??????

Ahhh YES!!! I love this part! Plus, I Just installed the Fumoto valve! I'll just now drain directly into a container to take to the recyclers. Clean-up just got easier!

Joining the 5K club here. I look at it as a cheap way to protect my $50K+ investment. I want my Jeep to last at least 150K miles, and would love to hit 200K.

Plus oil changes are actually kinda fun, IMO. Good reason/excuse to get a little dirty.

LOL!!!! I sooo need this. I change mine in the driveway so I gotta put up some handmade “Shield” to stop the wind from blowing the oil around when it’s coming out in the smallest stream (when it’s about empty). Lol….I try my hardest not to change it on really windy days ?

Where’d you get that valve??? ? It looks brillant!
