After couple of months of design, building and gathering components, I finally installed a tilting cargo shelf in the back of my jlu.
I was inspired by a design I saw somewhere else in this forum.
I used sendcutsend.com to fabricate the support brackets that bolt on to the roll bar. In Amazon I found lockable gas springs to allow the shelf to tilt down for loading and unloading while allowing it to stop anywhere along the way.
Finally, since I couldn’t find a cheap aluminum tray or cargo rack to reuse, I ordered regular aluminum angle stock and expanded steel sheet to make the shelf. I still need to do some welding for strength, but bolts would do for now.

Interesting idea. What do you plan to carry on it? I assume the point is to tilt it up and out of the way when empty?

Right now I put there the freedom panel bag, a camping table and chairs. It keeps all that up and out of the way.

Huh. That’s pretty nifty. I like the idea of using it to store your freedom panels. Let us see some more photos once you get it welded up!

Nice, I've had the same idea floating around in my head as well. Looking to build it this summer.
