Absolutely!

I have a dual channel Thinkware F800 Pro currently in my JL. I have had a few Blackvue cameras over the years and decided to give Thinkware a shot this time around.

Priceless insurance to have.

Yep I have one in every car I own and I've had to use it a few times. Hopefully Blackvue gets their new dual 4k/1080p cam out before I take delivery of my Wrangler.

In a funny light whenever people hear/see I have a camera their stupid response is always, "Why do you need one of those?"

4K on a dash cam is insanity.

Not only will it be a low frame rate - but it will fill up a 128gb card rather quickly.

A solid 1080p/60 would be the sweet spot. More low light capability is crucial as well. I'd argue the new blackvue is a bit excessive.

I was ready to go Blackvue but now I’m waiting to see what comes of the Waylens Secure 360. Potentially massively disrupting product. Up to15 days of park mode, built in LTE, and 360 field of view from a single camera. I also need to look and see if it can be mounted inverted so it can go on a BlendMount just under the mirror. And use a MirrorTap for power.

What resolution do you need so that licence plates are readable?

That's going to have a miserable bitrate and the footage is going to be shotty - legitimate 4k footage will fill a 128gb memory card rapidly.

These cameras have incredibly small sensors.

A clean 1080p/60 will pull legible license plates much better in my opinion.
Blackvue has samples of both their 1080p 60fps vs their 4k 30fps, you can tell the difference. The 4k is much cleaner.

Looks like you already answered my question.

No. 30fps, 7+ hours of recording on highest settings for both cameras:
https://www.blackvue.com/product/dr900s-2ch/
And, not to mention, 7hrs is literally overnight if you have motion in front of the camera the entire time. IE: windy trees.

You won't even have footage from the night before when you get up in the morning. You are going to definitely want some longer duration recordings. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe the 4k camera will have a more solid 1080p setting than the previous options.

I wouldn't trust their samples. They are a business that wants to sell. They will be the first large company to the 4k dash cam game. They tend to push all of their products before they are truly finalized to market.

I'd wait for some true video samples from real users.

This definitely wasn't an argument.

I was just expressing valid points based on my experience with a few Blackvue cameras. I had the 550 and the 650. My hatred for their terrible android app is what pushed me away.

Just giving you some food for thought before you blindly buy the newest camera wanting 4k "cinema quality" dash cam footage.
