Since this is both a tire and electronics related question, I wanted to put it in this forum versus one of the others....

So I a week ago I put 37's on my JL, and running 31-32 psi (since that's what most people say the sweet spot is for the STT Pros). Running 31-32 has set off the TPMS light and highlights some of the tires in red and asks me to "inflate to 37 psi" when I'm on the TPMS info screen.

Fast forward to yesterday, received my Tazer Mini, married it and set the front/rear TPMS limits to 20 psi, with the intent of getting rid of all the warning lights/messages. After doing that, the red-highlighted tires and "inflate to 37 psi" messages went away, but the TPMS warning light still blinks. I tried increasing the TPMS limits to 25...then 32 (where the tires are actually at), but the TPMS warning light never goes away. The only way (with the Tazer) to get rid of the warning light was to turn TPMS completely off, which I don't want to do since it removes the TPMS info from the Info screen and you can't monitor your tires at all.

Plot twist...so I unmarry the Tazer, and inflate all 4 tires to 37 psi to se what happens. I STILL have the damn blinking TPMS warning light. Now I'm thinking there's something going on between the TPMS sensors and the Jeep. My TPMS sensors were bought through Discount Tire Direct with my wheel/tire package. I assume they're not OEM, but they are sending the correct psi readings to the vehicle, so the fact that they are 3rd party sensors wouldn't cause this, would it?

Can anyone think of a reason the TPMS warning light would get set off even if your tires are inflated to proper psi levels?

The TPMS idiot light has nothing to do with the Tazer, I went thru the exact same issue, I purchased new wheels, tires and tpms sensors and sold off the original set well long story short the aftermarket sensors read the pressures correctly but the idiot light after flashing for 90 secs stayed lit regardless of pressure so the vendor supplied the shop I dealt with a OEM compatible set that took like 24 hrs to sync up but the tech at the tire shop said it would and even another shop told me the same, they all currently work well and even after rotating my spare in it took a few miles of driving but they all synced up so it may be a sensor issue and you can go to any place like discount tire and they can scan the sensors to ensure they are putting out a signal

Seems like a NEVER ENDING P.I.T.A.--

Just get rid of the TPMS XMITTERS in the tires/wheels--no more trouble, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR TIRE PRESSURE and now you can/should check your tires when you fillup, or once a month don't just depend on (TROUBLE PRONE)ELECTRONIC SURVEILLENCE !

Be a good jeeper and checkitout !

A blinking tpms light means there is an issue with the system, bad sensor or something on the Jeep side, most likely a bqd sensor

Mine blinked for 90 secs then went solid from what Discount Tire told me if it’s a blinking light that’s never solid it’s a bad sensor

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I'm getting a reading from all 4 sensors, so it's strange that one of them is "bad", but who knows. I'm dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow to have them look at the sensors with their scan tool. Maybe they can diagnose it...

Mine blinks and then goes solid.

That’s what mine did and once I swapped to a different TPMS sensor all those problems went away, the first set scanned fine to but there was something about them that the JL did not like.

On my Avalon, I would have the same issues with the TPMs. When I went to Discount Tire, 3 out of 4 were bad. I didn't want to pay $20 per TPM. I don't like the TPMs because they can be one big headache thinking you have have a low tire when in fact it was 3 TPMs.

At any rate, what does the manufacturer recommend for maintaining pressure? That's what I would go with unless your situation requires you to drop the pressure.

I'm pretty sure it's not a sensor issue I've been running a Tazer and 37's for 5 months now and the little yellow light is always on. If I increase air pressure to stock parameters the light goes off. For some reason the the tazer fixes the warning message for low air pressure like it should but the little yellow warning light is more to do with the sirius guardian stuff I think. I'm hoping that Tazer addresses it.

You say it’s not a sensor issue but the light has been on for months, I can tell you first hand I had aftermarket sensors and after they were installed they read pressures fine but the idiot light never went out and I put 3k miles on the Jeep during that time, once I got back from our trip we swapped out the sensors with a different set the vendor sent and they worked fine after I put some miles on the Jeep and I have compared what the EVIC displays on pressure and compared to both a digital and analog gage they are very close like less than a one pound difference so I would look at the sensors

I will follow this thread to see how it works out

I'm not running aftermarket sensors they are mopar sensors. I guess the way to test your theory would be to throw on the stock wheels and drop the pressure and see if the light comes on. If you are right I'm gonna put a piece of tape over the light lol. Way too much work to take apart all my wheels to change the sensors having Hutchinson beadlocks. All that matters to me is that they read the pressures which they do just fine.

Sorry for a stupid/maybe obvious question but when you set the psi to 37 did you drive for a bit to let the system clear the code and turn off the light? The way you described the series of events it seems the light was already on when you adjusted the psi threshold with the Tazer. I'm thinking if you clear the code first it won't be re-triggered until the psi drops to the new threshold you set with the Tazer.

In order for the Tazer to work correctly with TPMS I believe you will have to get the system working correctly as in no alarms or lights and once that is acomplished you can then lower the TPMS threshold thru the Tazer and then lower the pressure on the tires

When I had my Tazer running I could not get the light to go out regardless of the pressure setting it was not until I had it working correctly and then I made my adjustments thru the Tazer and all worked as it should

I think this was exactly my issue. You have to make the system happy before marrying the Tazer. I had to unmarry and air up to 37 psi and have discount tire reset my system. Then I was able to air down and set my own threshold. Seems to be working great now.
