Jeep Wrangler JL Tazer (Programmer) for the JL E145AD39-E2F0-42BA-B9E4-1AB6C321AFD2

Wanted to provide an update after our post yesterday. Joe reaches out to us and walked us through installing the correct firmware on the the Tazer unit. Huge help! Thank you very much. After about 5-6 times of trying to marry the unit to the JL it was successful. The we made the changes need to the system in order for the JL to be ok with the Currie Rock Jock 70s, Maxxis 42” Trepadors and Currie Anti Rocks. The dash is clean. Will be doing some test drives today with the vehicle. Big thank you to Joe for walking us through the process to get the unit working again.

Back to the SEMA crunch.

Think you guys are selling yourselves short... might want to hurry up and get a few "mods" on that thing!

Seriously thought I know this belongs in another topic, but VERY nice :like:

For someone who's been modifying for 30 or so years, it's so nice that we are finally getting through the "middle" ages and able to have products like the Tazer that allow you to take your vehicle where you want to cleanly. No more pulling dash bulbs and electrical tape etc... sure there are other ways, but the solution is becoming so much more user friendly.

For those looking for info on the Tazer JL and Tazer JL Lite:

Suggest you buy here:
https://zautomotive.com/product/tazer-jl/

Note: When you purchase, consider going with the two year warranty that costs $20 versus the free 90 day warranty. Just click on where it says "90 days - Free" and you can then select 2 year warranty.

By the way, I have nothing to do with ZAutomotive. I'm just a real happy Tazer JL Lite user...

For anyone interested in either the Tazer JL or Tazer JL Lite, I have attached the instructions for the Tazer's and firmware 11.0.6:

I've also attached the instructions that tell you how to install a front camera using the ZAutomotive video cable and activating with the Tazer JL.

For you guys and gals that will be installing the Tazer JL or Tazer JL Lite, DO, remove the plastic panel just below the steering column to facilitate the install. The panel comes off very easily... just pull. The panel clips are very sturdy, you aren't going to break them. Yes, the plastic panel goes back on just as easy... just align and push on. NO, you do not have to remove the panel to do the Tazer JL or Tazer JL Lite install but.... it sure does make the deed easier if you do so...

Yes, the Tazer JL and Tazer JL Lite, both work with either the 2.0 or 3.6 engines. Also, both work well with the Euro.

Thanks I was needing the 11.0.6 instructions, Z Automotive site as of now only offers the 11.0.3 for download.

When you remove the plastic panel under the steering column, look just up above the OBDll port and back a tad. There you will see the Gateway that you need to unplug the tow cables from that you will use when installing the Tazer JL or Tazer JL Lite:

That is the fun part when you have a stiff joints in your back, but doable.

@mazeppa

Indeed, not fun getting under there and doing that deed. For sure if you are under 35 and in good health, it is an easier thing to do.

I'm 69 yo and my back and knees aren't as they were years ago.... Anyway, worst part of the module install at the gateway, is getting the 2 cables themselves disconnected. One of my two is a bugger to get to release. No matter how I push in on that release lever on the connector, it does not want to let loose of the cable. I have worked 7-10 minutes to get it loose. Reality, in the end, the install of the module is no big deal..

When I first got my Tazer JL I spent 20 mins getting one of the connectors out and about 10 on the other one, I then plugged them both back in to see if they were going to be that hard to get out again and they did not want to budge.

I left the instal undone as @TTEChris of Tankcustoms volunteered to help me set it all up and when I got to his shop I had the kick panel back on and he proceeded to do the install, I asked about taking it off and he said “not needed” and he literally reached under the dash and had both unplugged in less than a minute :like:
I then asked him what I was doing wrong and he could not answer that but besides being a Jeep guy he has a Computer Shop as well and works with this kinda stuff all the time.

Several weeks later I had to unmarry it and remove the module for service ( oil change ) did not know if they would have even noticed it but I took it out, yes putting it back in was again trouble with those connectors, they were somewhat easier but tight so I looked at possible ways to make it easier, I found that the connectors themselves fit very tightly and if you look at them you will see they have raised ribs on one side and on mine they were rough looking like they had seams on them and you could see the rub marks on them from being put in and taken out so I took the finest fingernail buffing stick I could find and lightly polished off the rough spots and after just a few strokes they now still fit tight but literally I can have them both out in about a minute.

I don’t endorse you sanding on your connectors in any way but truthfully looking at mine you cannot tell anything was even done but I have had the Tazer out a few times since then and the connectors pop right out now, I could have left them untouched and just lived with them being tight because really how often do you really need to remove it but I just did not want to have my tired old body twisted up in knots trying to get those plugs out so I did what I did and it all still works, I also had the extender cable so the Tazer was not sticking out of the OBDII port but since have removed that as it was just one more thing zip tied under the dash, the bypass module itself is just tucked under the dash with no zip ties and I have never hit the Tazer getting in or out so when it’s needed I just have to unmarry it and unplug the Tazer and module and plug in the connectors and yes I have done it a few times just to see how long it takes and I can easily completely remove or install in under 5 mins.

Sorry for the long rambling but for those sitting on the fence about getting a Tazer don’t wait it’s a valuable tool that will in the long run save you some $$$ and it also will allow you as the owner to decide what you want t use like ESS, Autopark, Traction Control etc....

@WranglerMan

Next time I have those 2 connectors loose, I will be looking for the "rough looking" raised ridges "seams" you mention and will dress them accordingly. Thanks for posting you saw such .....

Tazer question:
I have 2 main need for my sport s:
1. Tire size adjust (lite will do this)
2. I have Rubi bumper w LED fogs ... will either allow LED fog choice? I didn’t see as specific option in table unless I read wrong.

Thx.
Hey guys. Can someone help me out with #2? I didn’t see “choose fog LEDs” in the table. Am I reading that correctly? I’m getting flickering on the LED fogs I installed on my sport s. I highlighted pic of where LED choices/options are available. Thx.
