Did you reconnect the cables to the security gateway module? You should be able to disconnect the Tazer and run without it as long as you reconnect the SGM.

You shouldn't lose your center screen simply by disconnecting the Tazer, as mentioned above.

However, you should ALWAYS unmarry the Tazer before a dealer visit.

After unmarrying, ALWAYS perform 2 full sleep cycles.
I have the extension cables to make access to the Tazer module easier. I did not reconnect anything to the SGM, just removed the Tazer JL. It sounds like user error on my part. And thanks for clarifying the "unmarry" before the dealer visit, not just remove. I'll try again now that I'm not rushed sitting on the side of the road before entering the dealership!

When you remove the Tazer, reconnect the OEM/vehicle cables into the extension cables. Leave the extension cables in place. You want it to look like this when the Tazer is removed:

Yes, I second the “unmarry” comment; it has to be unmarried before taking to a dealer. Then remarry when you get it back and all of your stored Tazer features will be back.

I never remove my Taser prior to dealer visits. What, exactly, is the concern about the dealer seeing it? Is there anything concrete, or is it normal dealer visit angst?

If the dealer performs a flash, which they can do even if you go in for just for a simple oil change or tire rotation, when you unmarry the Tazer your configuration goes back to the way it was before the dealer flash because that is what was stored when it was married. So you lose the update/flash and would need to return to the dealer and explain to them why you need the vehicle re-flashed. Said re-flash may cost you out of pocket.

What @jludave said, plus some dealerships are assholes that will use something like a Tazer as an excuse to void your warranty. My wife's ex was a master mechanic at Ford who loved to do that type of thing to people.

The Tazer is basically overwriting the software of the main computer (in VERY basic layman’s terms). It would be amazingly easy for Jeep to deny a warranty claim as a result. If you’re out of warranty, I wouldn’t think you need to worry about it. Just my two cents. I’m not a dealer nor have any verifiable info on this; read a long post somewhere in the last two days from a tech guy who explained what the Tazer was doing (it was a post on what is lost by not staying plugged into the security module and using the Tazer instead)

If the dealer performs a flash
I'm new to modern jeeps with uconnect 8.4 and always being connected, so please forgive me if this has already been answered else where. I was under the impression that Jeep can push down new ECU programming over the connected uconnect 8.4 head units remotely (as in your Jeep updates automatically while sitting in your driveway). How does this affect the Tazer JL when it's connected? I was looking at buying a Tazer JL for the 2021 JKURD I purchased 3 weeks ago.

No. You can get UConnect radio updates over the air when availale. There are no over the air ECU updates.

It doesn't because over the air ECU updates, as mentioned above, do not exist.

It's when you connect the Tazer to your computer, run their software, then have their software push new code into your Tazer (whatever terms they use for that process).

If that process doesn't go perfectly then it behaves strangely. That happened with mine.
They sent me this email about it finally.

Jeep Wrangler JL Tazer JL Screenshot_20230401_180235_Gmail

Which is what I assume the same as what you're speaking on. It returned things back to stock settings. I followed all their advice to the T, went out and it finally did change my lights to the amber turn signals, but the main issue for me is the 'Service Shifter', because it changes my gears when I drive, and beforehand would auto-park my vehicle several times at low speeds and once at a stop light - extremely unsafe.

That 'Service Shifter' warning came on once again after following all of their advice, doing the reboot and sleep cycles fully, and I have video of it changing gears on the road, even in manual mode, which is not comforting.

I would like and have tried to give it my best shot, and benefit of the doubt, but it's a liability.

I'll be responding to them with my videos as I did before.
