Sorry to jump in may be an old post. But today I finished installed my aux switches and nothing comes in. I’ve tripped Checked evryhting and I’m thinking it may need activation ? With a scan tool oem”tazer” ? Also got a DTC. Lost communication with TCM … its a 22 wrangler ecodiesel. A few months old. Why would I get a DTC ? I’m upset kinda. Hope it’s not something serious …

The switches will not work by default, you either need a programmer like a Tazer to activate them or a trip to the dealer and the code added to your VIN. Not sure on the DTC exactly. I did not experience that aspect of things. I would recommend going back through your wiring and checking all the connections and that the pins are correct. Almost sounds like one of the wires is loose or not in the right spot. Wish I could provide more insight.

Hi Wraith,
I have a basic AUX question. I installed my Mopar AUX switches a few months ago, and I bought a Tazer JL, but I haven’t got around to activating the switches yet. Once they are activated, will they continue to work if you unmarry the Tazer, to make a dealer visit? Just curious.

Thanks,
John

If you unmarry the Tazer it will put the settings back to factory as if they were never there. Be sure to follow the instructions and do two full reboots to clear the changes out.

Great post with lots of good information! I'm in the same boat right now. I installed the kit and double and triple checked everything, no AUX lights or functionality but uConnect is showing the AUX menu. I tried my Tazer and just now had the dealer enable the AUX on my VIN. Checked voltages and getting 12v on the red wire and 11.5v on the orange wire to the 7 wire console plug. I just ordered a new plug (Aptiv 15514821) hopeful that is the issue. Am I losing my mind or is the problem right in front of me.

Hey there, sorry for the late reply. Did you check the orange wire that needs to be de-pinned and make certain its fully seated? It has been a while since I did this, but I de-pinned the cables and connected them outside of the plug and that ultimately led to me finding out the plug was faulty. It certainly may be the same issue I experienced with that plug. I would recommend checking the cable you de-pinned and making sure its fully seated. Let me know how I can assist and ill be happy to do so.

I would also recommend pulling the black back cap off of that plug and pull the silicone weather jackets back a bit and out of the plug body and watch the cables as you push and clip the plug onto the switch. I spent a tremendous amount of time troubleshooting a similar issue to what you are experiencing. The problem was the plug it came with was an older version and allowed the cables to move around inside the plug and when clipping it onto the switch the cables wouldn't make full contact. I didn't realize it until taking the back off that plug and pulling the weather jackets back down the cables and watching several of the cables fail to make full contact with the contacts on the switch itself. Not to mention, my plug was broken on the inside with a giant crack between the the middle contacts. You will notice with the new revision plug you ordered the cables fit MUCH tighter into the plug. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the update! So a bit more information before I start de-pinning connectors, I plan to use the new Aptiv 15514821 when it comes in. But not sure if all 2021+ Jeeps have this, but there is already a plug wired up for the AUX switches hidden behind the cubby. This has no connection to the kits harness so it can't control the relays, but I tried it to see if the switch was bad. Well, what did you know, the switch lit up and it obeyed all the uConnect AUX controls. I'm getting closer and I'm confident in one way or another I'll get a good connection. I'm thinking of using the OG, RD, BK from the factory plug and the other four wires from the kits harness. Do you see any reason why that wouldn't work? I could then put the orange can bus wire back as it was in the footwell connector.

The Jeep I installed these on was a 2019 and didn't have that extra plug. After the headache I ordered my 2021 with the switches from the factory so I'm not sure if it's there on all of them. With that said, the switches should be entirely independent of that plug and the repinning of the cables for the can bus should be all that's needed. Sorry I can't provide insight here, I have no experience with that scenario. I do still think the issue you are having is due to the crappy plug those kits come with.

Thanks for the info, I ordered a new plug (Aptiv 15514821) from Mouser Electronics along with a terminal removal kit, it will be here Tuesday next week. I'm going to replace the kits plug first, last resort will be to Frankenstein the factory wires with the kit. So close the getting this buttoned up! !

Update : it's working now. (Back a few days) I had de-pinned the RD "red" wire when first installing the 7-pin connector plug because I had it in the wrong spot. In doing this the metal connector piece enlarged a bit causing a bad connection, it's barely noticeable, but buy using a metal pick tool I was able to deform it enough (crushing it in) to make a good connection. This is a photo before I "fixed" the red wire connector. This is all it takes to make a bad connection; I removed the white piece for better visibility.
