I have the tazer with hood alarm enabled. It's stopped at least two attempts to get under my hood. I assume that's where they start and its scared them off both times.

That and being a manual transmission has likely saved me from theft multiple times. Covering the VIN isn't a bad idea.. I'll throw a sticker over it today.

I'll probably also hide an airtag in there. Some guy used one to track his audi a few weeks ago here in Denver. He located the vehicle and the minor thief started shooting. He shot back and killed the thief, no charges filed. Wouldn't suggest that but it worked :)
We heard activity outside, 3 thieves had crow barred into my friends cherry 57 Chevy. We ran out and “Apprehended” them in an appropriate manner. When the cops showed up they told us they were “minors” and if he pressed charges against them they could charge us with “assaulting a minor” better let them go. An ass whoppin was far insufficient for the damage.

The Tazers work until the thief simply unplugs them and drives off with your car... Now you install a canbus bypass and hide it somewhere which could delay a bit more. But for the love of god dont buy a tazer, pulg it right in the OBD port by your leg and think it will help. Once unplugged it no longer locks out with a pin.

That sucks. I just sent a message to them to confirm. Trust but verify. Cheers

A friend has a “burglar” safe” walk in gun safe system. “I would rather have them destroyed along with the thief than have them stolen” ?

I used to own a 99 Honda Civic back in the day when they were extremely popular to steal and quite honestly super easy to do so. I installed a very simple hidden kill switch for the fuel pump and because I auto crossed it doubled as a safety feature. If one thing comes from this whole thread you posted it is that there are many owners right now thinking about how to keep theirs much safer. Sorry to hear of your loss.

In all honesty I thought maybe there was a company called Burger that made safes?
He built the safe- reinforced concrete with a safe door. Reloading “supplies” placed on a “bad” choice of flammable material by the door. If a thief cut through the door with a torch or spark throwing saw …………..?

The last video I watched on the Tazer mini described the security feature of disabling the vehicle after starting it, if the correct PIN code was not entered in a set amount of time. (30 seconds?). I thought that was pretty slick. However, others in this thread have pointed out when the Tazer is unplugged, the feature is removed.

There are some settings that can be programmed and remain persistent, even after the device is removed. Other features require the device to be plugged in. I don’t have a Tazer and do not claim to be an authority on the 100’s of settings you can control, or which ones require the device to remain plugged in to the vehicle to remain active.

Maybe the manufacturer can make this pin security feature persistent in future updates? I don’t know. Also, can the thief’s “Dealer software tablet” over ride the Tazer?

Tazer is widely used in the TRX community as well. Current version of Tazer for TRX does have security PIN lockout, however when thieves go for the trucks, they pull headlight switch and go for Can Bus Block(to program keys), they only have to pull one plug to disable the Tazer security. ZAutomotive is currently working on an update that will keep Tazer security PIN enabled, even if Tazer is unplugged or can bus wires are unplugged.

I have a kill switch installed on both my TRX and JL. Its and extra step to figure out which takes time.
